I think that the message that comes across is that until you have had the bike and ridden it for a bit you cannot really know what you 'need;' It is too late to change the specification of factory fitted items so you are in no furry! All I would say, particularly as you are coming from a Fireblade, is be careful where and how you park - when (not if) the bike goes over there is a technique for picking it up but (with luck) you will never become good at it.

Coming from an 06 Fireblade with 2 piece leathers etc I'll need to invest in a goretex type suit / boots etc when funds permit

Don't do it. Buck the trend and ride it in your 2 piece leathers (especially if you've got scuffed knee sliders) like I do. I have some cordura kit for when the weather is crap, but it's usually 2 piece leathers for me (or maybe (non bike) jeans and paraboots).

Unless of course you ARE going to Morocco???

To be fair to them if you are not making a travel documentary of your trip for broadcasting and production as DVD, you can leave the 4x4 behind.

Ordered a Baglux cover & an angled 12v plug for the sat nav lead, what else does the bike need ?
I'm thinking just front & rear Mudslings & some cans of ACF-50 ?

You NEED to find out what oil to use, just ask on here and someone is bound to tell you.

Mmmm can`t really answer that with an unbiased opinion but they do have one hell of a following despite the quality issues but BMW may be loosing out due to their cost down policies. My 2011 GSA is awful on the finish when compared to my 2006 GS - yes it`s quite sad but ther you go!

i just hope BMW have a change of heart otherwise even the diehards may think again....................

Is it really possible for Triumph to produce a better bike for around half the price???? Well, I understand that BMW have (so far) sold around 130.000 of these 'crappy' machines so the future for Triumph could be fantastic - unless someone is talking nonsense!
I have had ten BMW's during the last 30+ years - mine were all obviously 'exceptional' because I can safely say that each one that I sold was in as good or better condition than when i bought it - new or secondhand.

Yeah - there are a couple of other threads going on at the moment regarding quality especially with the FD & the fuel controller.

It`s easy to get the `lets beat BMW stick` out and give them a good hiding and NOT mention all the fantastic miles many many fellow Tossers have had and in fear of repeating myself and trying to be unbiased its such a real shame that other marques are selling for less and at quite possibly better quality.

Yes, although I am saddended to say it, the Tiger does seem like the better bike but I really hope the chaps at BMW sort it all out as I really love the bike.

We all (or should) have our own experiances regarding quality issues and I am lucky enough to have a 2006 GS stood next to a 2011 GSA in my garage and it is lamentable the obvious drop in quality. Add onto this the fact that my engine bars went rusty within 600 miles IN THE DRY and my fuel sensor has just been replaced then even the most unreasonable person could not accuse me of BVMW beating.

As I said, it`s just a really big shame.................
