you know,the one that touratech has.. the "nose" of our loved GS 1200
 
if you're crossing rivers quite a lot... I found that the nose and even the windscreen were keeping me from being dreched in water and mud long after the lower mud guard was underwater!...

Supposedly it channels air to the oil-cooler – whatever you do don’t take it off or your bike will blow up :rolleyes:
 
Helps to deflect branches while off road. Also useful for putting spanners and cups of tea on while you're working on the engine.
