what after market forks bolt straight in place of the old forks on a gs , did some one say wr 250 forks bolt straight in. as i might go down the road of building something ,but would like better front forks
DRZ400 front ends seem to be a common fit.. believe it just needs a spacer made for the top of the stem... Have a look at pete.keys project. It was next on my list along with a 100mm arm extension. But alas...
I was told somewhere that a F650 front end is a straight swap
Would that be enough for you or do you or are you thinking of the full Camelle
look of Syco's
The issue is that if you replace your forks with say upside downers (or right way uppers if you are an old timer like on a ktm or DRZ, they are far longer than the original forks, so unless you reduce their height, or rework the rear to compensate, then the handling can potentially be upset.
I am using DRZ forks on my project bike. It adds about 7cm (from memory though I'd have to check my notes) to the hieght of the bike so i have done the same at the rear. Of course you can't just raise the rear necessarily as this causes to steep a drive angle on the universal joint, so one has to extend the monolever.
So the bike is now a lot higher than standard (or will be when i get to put it back together), which is good for ground clearance , but not great for short legs. What seams a simple idea... ends up being a sizable project
im going to see if i can gey something sorted ,for next years int gs meeting ,so i can do a bit of off roading .
would quite like to build /assemble a nice off roader ,as it wont be used really for anyother purpose
I have just fitted a set of DR350S forks to my project bike,43mm stanchions,so beefy enough, just dry fitted at the moment but looks like a straight swap, even the bearings look the same.
