I've just put a sprocket on my 2nd set of trail wheels and it had me wondering what gearing you all run.

The stock DR-Z 400S is 15/44 (1:2.93), but off-road I am running 14/48 (1:3.430) - 16.8% reduction.

What ratio do you run?

Greg

are you sure your right... them ratios look like virtually no change at all

1 on the front is about 3 on the rear

Yes - 1 on the front and 4 on the rear.

hi ive found 13 47 the best comprimise on mine ..no issues with chewing the swingarm nice slow speed control ...reving its nads off a60mph though but quick and responsive at trail speed far less tendancy to cough or stall

dont know about the 650 should be a lot of power...but the original chain on the 450 will take that gearing no probs

regards stve

took the dr to work today for first time since going to 13 on the front :mmmm
like yours minky it is quicker but anything much over 65 is too revvy :nono
so have decided to skip the 47 rear option and leave as is :thumb

just have to sort out the fuelling now.prvious owner put an art end can on which is almost straight thru  trouble is when i crack the throttle from low revs there is a large flat spot.so im going to try lifting the needle a notch and see if that helps :nenau

just a wee update.
changed the gearing again today.
i noticed with the 13 front the drive was v snatchy on over-run also was informed by knowledgable peeps that a small front would seriously reduce chain life
so have changed back to stock front 15 and bigger rear 47.
also lifted the needle one notch.much more responsive bottom end now :thumb
