Hi!
I'm off round the world on the bike again. The route is per the map above and will see me riding from Dublin, Ireland, to New York...via Siberia.

All but the first couple of hundred miles will be done solo. I'm planning to upload the whole shooting match here. Today is the 6th of April, and I leave in 6 days... I hope to see you on the road :-)

I'll pop everything here, the kit, the route, the visa's...so if you ever plan on doing the trip it will hopefully give you a useful starting point.

Wish me luck....and may the force with us all!

The big fella

The kit I'll be riding with day to day

Hi folks,
In case anyone out there is planning to do a similar trip, I'm including some kit pages, and the rational as to why I'm going with this gear.

Boots: Alpine Star Tech 3.
I'm only going with these because they go up to my size (Eur 14, US 15) and they'll protect my legs and ankles when I come off the bike in Mongolia and Siberia.

Socks: Revit, nice and long and should help to keep my gunboat feet warm

Jacket: BMW Ralleye 2 suit, based on last 2 trips I did, its a fantastic jacket.

Pants: BMW Streetgaurd. I tried several brands but these are the only ones that will fit down and around my enfuro boots. I had to add belt loops because the pants are too heavy and with the Velcro straps that BMW supply they still fall down.

Helmet: Shoei XR 1000, one of the only helmet brands that goes up to 3XL, is quite good for noise, and has good streamlining to prevent your head getting blown all over the place.

The under Armour stuff should help me with mosquito's and ticks when I'm camping in Mongolia and Siberia I hope?... can a mosquito bite through this stuff?.....can a tick dig its way through..I'm sure I'll find out.

The gloves are heavily armored, mainly because I expect to be coming off quite a bit.

The rest of it is pretty self explanatory.

When you see it all laid out on the bed its some amount of gear to be putting on!...and doesn't include the heated vest which I'll be using in Siberia.

More to follow
Oisin.

ps...your right.....that is some of the ugliest carpet in the entire world! :-)

have a great time and indeed may all the police forces be with you too :)

i have used those boots in 40 degrees of heat and in -7 over the winter.
They keep you toasty in the cold and you will soon find out how much they smell any other time.
I had a long delay waiting for a ferry in morroco last year and after 24 hours without taking them off, the skin on my legs above my ankles started to rot. :D ha ha

Looks like a real adventure - myself and two friends want to do the ultimate lap next year for my 40th... when did you start planning? How long did all the visas take?

Well done for having the guts - jealous as sin!:beerjug:

Great to speak the other day... Do hope you can swing by in the wild and desolate land of Hertfordshirestan as you pass through Blighty...

Susie and I look forward to seeing you - if not - ride safe and make that call if you need anything mate...

Ride safe. Simon :thumb2

I suppose I've known I'll be doing it for over a year....but been working on it for the last 2 months or so....

The Visas aren't too bad..... for Mongolia its apply and your done...

For Russia I got a multientry business visa...

process...
you need to get an invite from Russia, then once received by the embassy you apply...only takes a couple of days..... but is straight forward....

I used an agency for the invite, link is below
http://visalink-russia.com/russian-business-visa-russian-business-visa-invitation.html

All told you can knock them both out in a couple of weeks.

Leaving......

Hi Oisin

Where/when/what sailing are you leaving on - perhaps a send-off party might see you on your way?
