Hi all.Gonna get a BMW but undecided about model.I know the GSA is not for me as its just so big.Ridden one a couple of times in Morroco, its a great bike and i am used to big trailies.I have owned 2 Honda Africa Twins and worked as a London motorcycle courier on them.I am looking for something lighter and more agile so will go for the 650 or 800.The 650 Dakar appeals to me but is it worth the extra.I want it for around town mainly(possibly courier work too) but some motorway stints and the odd off road foray.Test rides are good but some input from the forum too would help.

Thanks

Horses for courses XRV ... whichever rocks your boat most :thumb

I've had the F650 Dakar, girlfriend the standard F650GS singles... done loadsa miles on them... collectively about 180,000 miles between three bikes .... no problems, great bikes :thumb

I've now done 40,000 miles on the F800GS in just two years without any problems :thumb

So test ride what you can and buy the one you want ... you'll not go wrong whatever you settle with I'm quite sure.

OK, not much help for you really, but I'm sure you'll get loads of advice here and it probably won't help...

Hi Welcome,
I have only ridden the F650GS & im a short Ar**ed 5ft 5 inch had it on loan for 10 days found it really good nice steady bike. gripped to the roads like Sh**t to a blanket off road really nice & the Distanzers tiers really good.

Would like to test ride on the 800 the bigger 1250 is far too tall & heavy for me, so could not comment on it.

Thanks for the replies.I will go for the 800gs.....the 650gs with its alloy wheels doesnt appeal as much as the more rugged 800.
Thanks again....when i get the bike i will post some pics....cheers

i had a 650 gs as a work commuter, 70 mpg, great bike did everything i ever asked.

and easyish to home service, you wont go far wrong with one.
