I'm ditching my engine bars that have been scuffing the LHS telelever as they have had a previous drop so will need some realigning and they are also covered in body underseal over rust, something the previous owner thought might have been a good idea..

Both Motorworks and Steptoe are offering headguards at a similar price but of a different specification and fit and I think that the GSA looks much better without engine bars anyway, so.
Steptoe's are full cover whereas M/Works allow access for stick coil / faff thing change.

The front LHS mounting bolt thread is partially stripped so will have to be drilled out and tapped to suit but that's not a problem.

Any unbiased opinions

I have Steptoes headguards. On average I drop my bike a few times a year (ice/snow:P and aggressive footpegs) top of my head @ 10 times. No issues what so ever, no damage to the heads, all fittings correct, present and unbroken, being cast ali, light scuff marks just buff out and rattle can restores the black finish. 2 min job to remove / fit both when changing plugs.

5 star recommended.
Downside, unless Steppers has some in stock - it can be a bugger sourcing them....but worth it. IMHO

I've also been looking and have settled on Steptoes head guards. They are quick to remove and offer real crash protection. Just need to save up some pennies now.

I've done a similar thing to you and removed engine bars in favour of tougher head guards. I went with Touratech and found them in Germany significantly cheaper, and with much quicker delivery than Touratech Germany. They're aren't pretty but are an improvement over the engine bars and fitted well. The other bonus is they'll fit twin spark and single spark so I can switch them onto my R1100S for trackdays.

Headguards it is then. I also think that the bike looks better without engine bars :D

Decided on Steptoe's finest in the end, more expensive than Touratech but they are certainly beefy and substantial enough for the intended purpose.
I'm spending a bit of time polishing them up first as they are pretty much out of the casting but you could also just give them a quick spray and put them straight on if in a bit of a rush.

Oh, and they were here within a few days of ordering :thumb2

Excellent choice sir:beerjug:

Make sure you glue the rubber strips to the guards - I've seen them fitted without and don't think they would work as required.

Is there a link to find these Steptoe head guards?

Any suggestions for a 2007 R1200GSA??
Most of the aftermarket ones won't fit with the BMW engine bars.............. and it would "upset" me to have to pay for the genuine ones!!
