what is the best tyre to put on my 1200 GS? there are metzeler tourance exp on it at the moment but I have only done 3700miles and the back one is fecked. What sort of milage shold you get out of a back tyre on a GS

Just put the old style tourance's on and you should get at least 12k from a rear tyre.

Perhaps if you ride very gently on smooth English tarmac. I've never managed to get 5K out of a rear Tourance.

I agree with standard Tourance above EXP. BT 020 is great but again you'll only use 50% of its potential....and it'll get chewed up just the same as the EXP. Try the standard Tourance and enjoy.

I get 4k from Old Tourances. I get 4k from Anakees. I'd probably get 4k from Roadsmarts. At least I'm never surprised. Actually I was once, I only got 1500miles out of a rear on my GSX-R1000 and 600 miles of that was running in

On me old CX500 I used to get 4K
Then after a few bikes I got an 1100GS and would get 15K no problem using anakees, then I moved to Ireland and got a LOT less.. Riding style always the same... So I guess tyre wear is down to surface and how good your rear suspension is at keepin the feker on the road...

Road biased tyre's
Got 6,000 miles from my original tourance exp's changed with 1.2mm left on rear and 1.5mm on front....no complaints they were very predictable and surefooted but as the only off roading i ever do on the gs/a is riding on and off campsites i thought i'd try some sports touring tyre's...i plumped for a pair of Conti road attack's and after scrubbing them in they are so much more inspiring...loving the adventure even more now , paid £205 ride in ride out at Buckley tyres in north wales....Fantastic...can't wait for next monday when i get the boat to Bilbao(do my off roading on a Beta bye the way)

Just fitted Metzeler Roadtec Z6 onto the 1200 GSA yesterday. Way quicker handling than the Bridgestone BT 23. Well pleased with the agility and grip.

And that's what you want, might be worse than the old Death Wing, but if you're happy with its bakelite wear rate, lack of grip in the wet as you only ride on motorways in the dry, what's the point of getting the latest stickiest BT99zz tyre that they use in BSB?
latest stickiest BT99zz tyre that they use in BSB? I knew there was a BMW in World SB - but I did not realize there was a GS1200 in BSB. Can't get that on my TV I am afraid.
