what is the best road use tyre

I have replaced my old Dunlops with Continental Trail Attacks. They have loads of good write ups and most riders blogs support that. I have done 4000+ miles including trip to France and Picos Mountains in Spain, lots of bends and unfortunately, lots of rain, but they were great. I have a group of mates on a number of different sports bikes and so we do ride on occasions quickly. These tyres just hold you to the road. As far as tyre wear goes, they have cut into the rubber the words Trail Attack. I can still easily see these words.
There are two types of Continental tyres - Road Attacks & Trail Attacks, but i think you will find the Trail Attacks the better option.
I also noticed the other day at a bacon butty place in abergaveny, a brand new GS 1200 adventure with the Trail Attacks fitted. I didn't get a chance to ask the owner if they were fitted from new or he had them put on instead of the original equipment tyres.
Hope this helps. :beerjug:

latest stickiest BT99zz tyre that they use in BSB? I knew there was a BMW in World SB - but I did not realize there was a GS1200 in BSB. Can't get that on my TV I am afraid.

With all the extra power the 2010 GS makes and how it beats everything on the handling front, I'm sure it's only a matter of time

Let's be fair, they're made out of rubber, they have treads & they are round...

To compare wear rates en toto is rediculous really as some ride like grannies ( like me) & some try to emulate Rossi.

If you're pushing the limits of adhesion with any good modern tyre, your on the wrong bike...

:popcorn

Perhaps if you ride very gently on smooth English tarmac. I've never managed to get 5K out of a rear Tourance.

I got less than 4k out of a Tourance on my Craponord, although 1.2k of that was on a trip to the Highlands

Confused???

Just fitted Metzeler Roadtec Z6 onto the 1200 GSA yesterday. Way quicker handling than the Bridgestone BT 23. Well pleased with the agility and grip.

Didn't realise that Metzeler or Bridgestone did the correct size for the R1200 GSA?

My bike came with Anakees from the factory and I got never confident with them. Worst was with 2 up and luggage .

Anyway, I got rid of them and replaced them with Metzeler Z6 as I do not do off road anyway. I picked the Z6 as it was described in tests and rider reviews as neutral, good in handling and grip both dry and wet.

For me as a rather unexperinced rider the Z6 gave me immediately much more confidence and riding pleasure :D. Now after 10'km I'll replace the rear one with a similar. There is still a bit rubber left on it, however, maybe not enough for the trip I am planning.

My riding usually consits of cruising through the countryside along the Norwegian west coast :aidan and I often just use the two main brake cylinders which stick sideways out of the engine for deceleartion. Therefore the front tire may even make it as long as two rears.

Very possible that there are better road tires available, however, I am pleased with the Z6 and will stick with it for the time being .

Battlewings with 8k on them. Good tyre, but now squared off as I have been commuting up the M40 twice weekly for the past year:(

Lets try and rationaize this!

Comparisons of different tyres make little sense without a great deal of additional data. If we cover a fair mileage in a year then we may well have used different tyres summer and winter - and that will make a great deal of difference to wear. Do most GS riders have a similar style of riding, relaxed, no excessive acceleration, braking? I doubt it and I doubt if many ride on similar roads to those I use....very steep, very twisty, very hot at present plus a fair bit of autoroute. There is probably a clear ratio between tyre wear and age of rider/ weight of rider (pillion)/ distance of journeys/ friction of road surface etc;
And as far as 'breakaway points' who of us get anywhere near them, wet or dry, unless through an error?
