Off to France in january....but by diesel 4*4 not GS!!:blast

a lot of miles to do so looking to keep costs down

anyone know what the service stations flog by way of diesel types??
I seem to recall seeing pumps with the usual petrol and diesel but also something I think called "gasoil" which seems a whole lot cheaper than anthying else on offer????

Gas-oil is diesel in France - or at least thats what I put in my 4x4 - runs fine.

Similar price to UK diesel though:blast

Diesel is currently 26p per litre cheaper in France than U.K. Pumps are marked gasoil. My local is 1.12 euros per litre. Arrive on reserve and fill up, leave with a full tank. Gasoil is standard diesel. The main reason the sales of dieselcars in France are at an all time high.

Gazoil, as the others say, is diesel.

Many garages now sell the 'Super diesel' as well as the 'normal' stuff.

Just got back to the Dordogne after a 3000 km trip around Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and Holland. Used loads of diesel/gasoil. Luxembourg is the cheapest at 1 euro per liter. France (home) is around 1.30 on the autoroutes and 1.15 or so at the supermarkets. I never bother with the special stuff.

this is very good and helpful...be nice to get away from fecking ludicrously expensive diesel prices here....maybe its not the EU thats the problem, but our homegrown bunch of gravytrainers???
thnaks for the replies anyway
merry christmas

If arriving by tunnel, don't fill up at the very first station you see....prices of the next 4 ot 5 services are posted regularly on the autoroute and you can make a decent saving if filling with 60 ot 70 litres. And if on a peage section, try to avoid coming off to refuel at a supermarket as you end up paying quite a bit more for two x 100 km sections of pay as you drive autoroute than 1 x200 km section...if you get my drift
