On some R100 models and possibly others, there is a solid line and shading beneath it, at approx 30 MPH. These marks are similar to the red rev limit marks on tachos.
What's it for?
Is it a maximum speed in first, or possibly lowest speed in top, or some other reason.
Just curious

My Mono has several lines round the speedo with dots under them. The first line has one dot, the second has two etc These are the maximum speeds in each gear if you haven't got a rev meter installed.

If it's a solid white line: You must not cross or straddle.

If it's broken: then you may cross only if it's safe to do-so :augie :D

Well, I've stump you then:)
Well Val H, should I have put this under Joke Corner:augie
This solid white line with dashes under it, runs from the centre of the clock to about 30MPH or 50KPH on some.
It is identical to the red one on the rev counter.

Just been out to my 90/6 :nenau

Must be a 80/7 thing. Is it an Ex Police machine?

That was a cracker about the pair of Speedos:D
I've modded the picture to show approx. what it's like.
My bike doesn't have it, I'm looking at purchasing another airhead.
The picture I'm referring to comes from the book:
ORIGINAL BMW AIR-COOLED BOXER TWINS 1955-95 By Ian Falloon (Hardback 2003)
Its not important, but now I really want to know
