Advice please!

I'll be starting a European tour expected to last 6 months or so as soon as the Plymouth to Santander crossings resume sometime in March.

I used to have a Compaq Pressario that travelled with me to far off places on diving holidays. I used it to store dive-logs, photos and play the odd DVD etc.

I'm in the market for something similar but lighter if possible and able to be re-charged from the bike whilst on the move. I'll be mainly camping so mains re-charging won't be available very often.

I really don't need too many bells and whistles. Apart from the dive-log, the use will be similar but I do want to be able to draft my weblog and then transfer it via a USB to the web by visiting Internet cafe's. I'll want to have the Mapsource stuff for my Nav II on it rather than buy more CF cards.

A CDRW would be benefical so that I can back up my photo's etc.

DVD player would be a bonus for rainy days under canvas but not essential.

My budget is £500 to £800.

What sort of memory, processor etc. would be adequate?

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Mike.

Any luck?

Got through eventually (engaged most of the time).

Mentioned the site and the recommend. Nothing in stock at the moment but very helpful, discussed my needs and e-mail address passed. They will contact me within a week when they have something that meets what I want.

Said that all are HP/Compaq refurbed and usually have at least 10 months makers warranty!

Fingers crossed! Looks as though it will be these boys getting my dosh!

Cheers, Snooky!

Sorted!

Compaq Presario R3212, 60Mb, 256, 15 inch wide screen, DVD re-writer etc. £560.

Just been to PC World to get an AC/DC/Europe adaptor (for my travels in a couple of months time) and saw R3000 model on the shelf, special price £1100!

Top marks to Snooky who recommended these guys.........

I have with Clive's assistance (over the phone), loaded XP Home with SP2, gone on-line and downloaded my Antivirus software and with help of others on this site got the sound and DVD working.

Found that Tagus make an AC/DC adaptor that means I'll be able to recharge the battery on the bike whilst travelling or just change one lead and plug in to the mains.

Thanks to all who helped with various advice and numpty computer help questions I posted!:clap
