For gearbox and shaftdrive?

BMW recommends Castrol!(?)

What viscousity type you guys use there in foggy soft UK? Here in Estonia it gets muuuch under zero degrees Celsius in the winters, sometimes till minus 30 degrees. But at the same time i want to travel to Turkey and Iran in the summer where the temps go up till forty-five. Quite a extreme temperature diapasone, eh? What's the best, to change put special oils for the winter or to drive all year around with some speciefic one?

Important

check out the thread about drive failure ,
I cant say for sure that there is a link but a lot of those that
have used synthetic oil in the drive shaft have had a failure.

Hmmm...

As far as i'm concerned - is there any semi-synthetic or organic oil available for transmission viscousity???

I only know fully synthetic ones...

The ordinary EP80/90 gear oil, recommended by most car/bike manufacturers for axles & gearboxes is a mineral oil.

For example Morris Hypoid

You do not need anything that exceeds the specification of this product. Don't worry about taking your bike to Turkey. Even in Estonia, your gearbox will get hotter than any ambient temperature in Turkey.

Morris also do a range of fancy synthetic and semi-synthetic gear oils. Download the Adobe Acrobat file on the webpage above, it lists the specifications of them all. Of course, using the race spec. oils is not going to harm your bike and may even make it work better, especially from a cold start.

I realise that Morris probably do not ship their products to Estonia. However, their website has a lot of useful information. Hopefully, you will be able to use this information to source a suitable product locally. (their homepage is here )
