Hello everyone. I'm in the market for an 1150gs/adventure if one comes up in my price range. I'm looking to spend about £3500-4500. I was just hoping someone could give me some pointers to look for on these fine steeds. You know, common faults, items to use to get money off etc.
thanks.

You don't want to have to change the clutch, costs a fortune, so a bike that's done 50k on touring runs might be fine, one that's done a hard 50k round town might be needing a clutch soon. Also, put the bike on the main stand, with the back wheel off the ground check for lateral free play. If there is more than a smidge the bearing will be either needing adjustment (if you're lucky) or needing replacement. Other than that, it's the usual stuff you'd check on any bike. Negotiating points? Corrosion on forks and engine front (they all do that, sir). Again, the usual, tyres, disks, pads, general scruffiness.

Agree with JohnnyBoxer, you should get a good'un in your price range.

Summed up well

Also check if it's still got the original stick coils - expensive if all 4 need replacing on a twin plug model !

I think only twin plug models have stick coils, and then only on the primaries (secondaries share a remote coil) so only two at most. We could also debate servo ABS endlessly, mine has been fine for more than a decade.
