what Size Male Socket For Front Wheel Spindle?

I've looked and failed to establish the size male socket required to remove the front wheel spindle.

Can anyone help please.

You need a 22mm hex, I made a tool out of an old sparkplug socket which had a 22mm hex at the end, where the ratchet would normally attach to the socket. Sort through your tool box maybe you have an similar old spark plug socket (for sparkplugs as used on an old OHC Cortina). If you haven't got a welding torch handy you can drill a hole right through the socket, so you can slide a large phillips screwdriver through it.

There was a chap selling them on UKGSer, made from a strip of bar, into which he had inserted a torx bolt. I bought one.

Don't think you'll find an allen bit socket that size. Try for a 7/8" allen bit as i believe thats the equivalent size.

There are some other options on Ebay - but you can also get the last one at your local fastener company.

Personally i went with cutting the drive end of a spark plug socket (as has been mentioned). That way you already have the 3/8th's drive so you can just use a ratchet or torque wrench as required. Think i got the socket from halfords for a few quid.

Halfords do a 22mm to fit the front wheel spindle, the other side is 19mm so you will need a 19mm socket.
