I have searched the threads but can’t find anything about after-market spot-lights for the 12GSA? I know BTBR does them for the 1200 (free with a sandwich I heard!) but can't find info on the GSA?

Does anyone have any information?

Cheers

if you mean plug and play, in this part of the world you may be shit out of luck. People seem to buy lights they can afford and mount them with a method of their own choosing or buy finding an off the rack mount like a migsel etc.

Yep, see what you mean. I checked the Migsel site and I couldn't see a link to a GSA bar but maybe wait a few months. With all the computers/CANbus stuff on the GSA it sounds like the hardest part is wiring it all up. I can wire a plug but thats about it so might wait until someone works out how to do it before trying it on my bike. (or maybe BTBR fancies a holiday in Aus? ;)

BTW - How is the new bike?

bike is one of the best things i've ever bought :)

touratech do a canbus helper package - but it is just a relay triggered from the diagnostic or forward power sockets: You could do this if you can wire a plug and the parts are available immediately from any car parts store.

The GS is the same as the GSAdv as far as mounting things goes - might be worth asking people here if the additional light mounts would contact the top of the tank crash bars where they pass under the beak - or you could mount to the top of the tank crash frame...

Have a look at some of the GS pics on the advrider site - could give you lots of ideas for lights and mounting options.

Thanks Bonox, will check out the advrider site and do some research there.

So tell us more about the bike, been for any good rides on it yet? I cant wait to try out Putty Road on it, I had ar5e ache after riding down there on the ZZR.

Pick up mine sometime in November. :bounce1

Think the putty would be a waste of time on the adv given that I have the blackbird still for doing them.

been doing loops around the southwest of oberon mostly. unfortunately it's not getting as much use as i'd hoped (writing the finishing touches to my doctorate at the moment) byt by the end of the year, she'll havelow 5 digits on her :D

ps: the new abs system is much better than the old one (but you didn't order that did you?)

nope didn't order the ABS. Am I correct in thinking mine will be a "non-servo" model though?

What does non Servo mean? (apart from that there are no servos!)

the servo's only ever came on the ABS models - it is an electric pump that provides pressure to the calipers (through the ABS distribution unit). They've done away with it on the 2007 models. Improves the feel out of sight (back to how it should be) and has one less traditionally flakey expensive piece of hardware to break down.

Took the pathetic OEM fogs off my GSA and replaced them with the Hella FF50's off my old 1150 (with 70w globes) ... BIG difference :D No Canbus issue.

I had two ballasts left over from a bike I sold, so I bought some 3000K bulbs which are true fogs / bright yellow and converted the OEM fogs to HIDs.

The OEM fogs are made by Hella (non-Xenon Micro DE) and when converted to HIDs work quite well.

I also converted the main HI/LOW to HIDs.

HI dronning!, Can you tell me what difference the high beam HID setup give you,? as I have converted mine dip to HID and wandered If there was any issues with the H/L flash and warm up times for the HID High beam light,.??

Geoff

The high beam is really overkill, but I do quite a bit of all night riding - dusk to dawn is my prefered LD riding time - must be part vampire.

I converted both the HI/Low at the same time so I never saw how the OEM HI beam looked with Low HID - I can't imagine that the OEM HI would actually give you much more light.

With the HIDs if you need to "flash" an oncoming car they do get the point even though they don't get the full effect of the HID light.

I did ask one of the Mfg. about flashing on/off and if it would shorten the bulb or ballast life and the answer was basically that you would wear the BMW switch out before the bulbs/ballast would ever have a problem. The bulbs/ballasts are good for 10s of thousands of cycles.

Hope this answers your questions.

Micro Flooters are only Ring MicroCruise Lights with a fancy bracket.
So I just went to Halfords and got a pair for about 30quid and made a bracket.

Wiring is a doddle.. Plenty of diagrams etc if you do a search on the site.

Saw these monsters attached to a bike in South London MC a few weeks back.. If that's what you're looking for.

Wunderlich list two types of aux lights for the 12GS and GSA (page 102 in new cat) they mount under the indicators. Have a set of the Micro-Flooter ones if you are intrested :D

HID

I have HID-ified the main beam and the low beam, and have also HID-ified the 2 BMW fog/driving lights that came as a £200 optional extra on the 12 GSA.

One good part of that is the lights are already fitted and you only need to fit the HID kit. Also good is that they can be used on low beam as the fitted foglights cut off the top half of the beam. That means you are driving around with 3 HID lights on at all times ... around 10,000 lumens of output ... as opposed to about 1300-1500 lumens from the standard single halogen bulb. Its a massive difference.

The main downside is as they are foglights rather than driving lights, you only have one "high beam" light out of the four when you switch to high beam.

Having said that, driving at night on the HID high beam (and with 3 HID low beam lights on as well) not many people are going to be screaming for more light in front of them ... there is a lot that this setup puts out.

So far the setup seems durable. The HIDs were put in after the first few hundred kms and I have since done about 10,000km (6k miles) around Europe on the bike in the last 3 months on both sealed and unsealed roads, and no problems so far with any of the ballasts or HID bulbs. .... so far ...
