i am getting a F800GS but not sure what gear to get. This is my first bike so i need the lot, any good websites or ideas?

I have the regulation Rally 2 and a Hein Gericke PSX (I think) suit. Like both, but Rally suit better in warm weather (lots of vents) PSX better in the wet (gore tex in jacket and not the liner). If I had to pick just one I would go for the Rally 2 with a rain suit.

I got the opposite result.

HG Voyager - had it for 7 years now with around 30k miles on it, and its been fantastic. Completely waterproof, great in the winter (TShirt and jeans under it). Summer - take out the thermal linings - TShirt and Voyager pants straight on, and its still totally waterproof, but as cool as my RP2.

When I got my Twat jacket I was annoyed and disappointed to discover there is no thermal lining in the arms! So body toastie and arms locked-up frozen stiff!:thedummy

If you take the (partially thermal) lining out of the RP2 to cool down - then its no longer waterproof - the lining is the goretex bit!!!

So, RP2: Cold and Waterproof in Winter - Cool and NOT Waterproof in Summer. :tears

HG Voyager: Warm and Waterproof in Winter - Cool and Waterproof in Summer.:thumb2:thumb2

Taking my Twat Jacket to Spain where I'll ride without the lining and keep it in my Pannier.

I bought a Hein Gericke Touraeg suit last year and have worn it most of the year round, except when very cold when I needed to wear my BMW Tourance suit. Wore the Touraeg suit to Morocco and back last year and coped well with the heat in it as well. Main problems are that it is white (or was when I bought it) and not waterproof although Nikwax it has made it showerproof. However, see that new version is Goretex (lined?) and darker colours so would be worth looking at.

If your budget can strech to I would endorse RUKKA, I have the armax suit, and I have tried lots of gear, this suit is the Dogs, it regulates your temperature via a material called outlast, I rode a 1000 mile challenge in December in freezing conditions, you could walk from sub zero outside to 20 degrees in a services and the suit smoothes out the temp difference, it really works. The outer is goretex xcr "Really breathable" and has armacor which they say is more abrasive resistant than the average set of leathers.

Expensive, but Great !!

I'd also recommend Rukka, i've got their Armadillo jacket and it is completely waterproof and I mean completely. It sheds the water like a duck so you get home, give it a shake and its dry again. Expensive but excellent. The best place to go price wise is www.biker-land.de . Service is pretty good too but make sure you've tried the jacket on first so you know what size you are 'cos the cost of postage if you have to send anything back can be expensive.

I have a Hein Gericke Cruise GTX 2 piece suit. It performs superbly on the bike, is very comfortable, absoultely 100% waterproof and toasty in the winter. It is however starting to show signs of wear after about 7000 miles on the bike which I'm finding a little disapointing. However it's about half the price of Rukka gear. I guess you get what you pay for!

Try looking ...

... here. Opinions vary but I really rate the Halvarssons stuff; it's about half the price of the competition, waterproof even without the liner and comes with a 'phase-change' type lining as standard, plenty of vents for cooling and you have the added benefit of not looking like a twat :augie

ps - You do have to buy the back protector separately :o

Have a search, there are loads of threads on the subject. What do you want it for ? Road use only? Road and Off-road? Mainly Off-road? Just uk summers or all year riding? There is not a single suit available that will do everything well so you need to think about what you want from it and how much you've got to spend. If you tell folks this they'll be in a better position to recommend something :thumb2 Whats good for road riding in winter will be no good for trail riding in Europe or the height if UK summer and vice versa.

heres my take on bike wear............. no need for expensive just make sure it fits. it has agood thermal liner (one that goes down the arms/legs). and good ventalation without the liner in. and to keep you dry an oversuit. belive me its easyer to put water proofs over the top of your gear than getting a gortex liner in yer strides at the side of the road!!!!!!!! whatever you deside you'll never be happy and always be looking for improvement.

Its funny how different people's views are. For myself, I look for waterproofness and ventilation. If the weather looks colder, I take layers of thermals and a fleece which are more useful off the bike anyway. Never carried a thermal liner in my life :P

I have also got a HG cruise GTX jacket and trousers. I love them.
Very dry,and warm in the winter with the removable storm collar and removable bib and braces. (Not sexy but they really work).
In the summer lots of vents and because its a Gore Tex outer not at all bothered if it rains.
Thought about the full Twat suit when my new GSA arrived last week but just think it looks a bit cheesy, new bike, new suit..........

Can't give advice without knowing your budget...

budget £700-800 for everything. as with the helmet i quite like the idea of having the built in flip down sun visor

Im with Oblertone..... +1 for Halvarssons.....
I have had one of their jackets for 2 years now: ace kit, and cheap for what it is.

(Im not connected with Halvarssons in any way apart from being a happy customer)

Hi
Just for info. I brought a Hein Gerrike Crusie jacket and thought it the bees knees until it started to badly frayed at the cuffs. I returned it to the store in Leicester where they replaced it with another one! They did tell me it was due to me riding my bike everyday!!
A few months later same problem with the cuffs and stitching round collar came undone. Returned to store and after some heated discussion and phone call to head office, they offered me a refund!
I opted for the newer Master V jacket expensive for £500.00 but I had it now for 3months, used every day!! and find excellent, they have got rid of the velro on the cuffs so no more fraying!!
The chap at the store admitted I wasn't the only one to return the cruise jacket. I did rate the cruise for winter riding and warmth just a shame about the fraying.

I hope to have many a year from the master v so far so good !!
