What to look for on a 1100

I know they are thought to be bullet proof, but:

Corroded front brake master cylinder(tears up the seal)-Replaced the master cylinder.
Magnetic stators on starter fell off (glue breaks down)- Replaced the starter motor
Clutch packed in after a lot of abuse and 70K (not bad)- Replaced clutch and crank seal.

I wouldn't swap it for any other GS (unless I could sell it and buy my own 1100 back)

you mean a 98 anniversary registered in late 99

yes but no but.
i checked with bmw and my bike was built in 1999.just b4 the 1150 came out.
they must of had some painted tanks etc kicking about:nenau

Cheers for all the info guy's:thumb
Based on all of that I'm after a post 98 bike. As I've said I've got my eye on one at the mo and am not too bothered about cosmetic condition. If anyone has one for sale the nI'd be interested in the details however...................
I'm still on a fairly tight budget hence looking at the 70K miler.

If you've got a post 98 bike and are thinking of selling it, drop me a PM but like the budgy it's got to go cheap:D

Mine was the same... though an import and resprayed black for the original owner. 2000 on a W plate.

In defense of all the cr@p I had to deal with on my previous post, I did find owning the bike very satifsying indeed.

I sold it because I used to tour europe every year alone, and in that situation, i did not feel i could trust it.

If you are not in a similar position, i would go for it.
