A friend is thinking of moving from an F800R to a R1200GS. This one is in his sights.

Given the many and various problems of the 1200:hide, what should he be looking out for?

Quite low mileage for the year so I'd be surprised if there would be any issues, but................

Check for play in the FD by grabbing the wheel top and bottom and trying to rock it from side to side.

Check for warped front discs (pulsing when braking).

Corrosion is an issue in the tail light unit as it's unsealed.

Corrosion is also an issue at the bottom of the front engine cover.

Worth checking to see if there is serious corrosion around the fuel pump controller as the well it sits in can trap water - some bikes seem to suffer whilst others don't.

Other than that I can't think of much else other than the 'normal' sort of checks you would do on any bike.

Yeah me too

seems a helluva lot of euros to me

Yeah, I think so too - go steady mate, do a lot of comparing and think carefully eh?

Otherwise, it can be the luck of the draw - I`ve read some horror stories but to always be fair there are a lot of very happy owners out there!

Its the going rate for the year and mileage from a dealer. The killer is when you convert euros to pounds. Coupe of years ago that bike would have been 20% cheaper.

That bike new is about €16,500:eek:
