I've had a look through the site but can't work out what will fit or what type it is. I got a 2000 1150gs with the black plastic bmw touring pannier's fitted now I don't want a givi with the traffic light's on the back of them and I don't want an alli box which is worth a quarter of the bike. What I do want is a match to the panniers if you can help by telling me what they are .I will get some photos when I can get in the shed!

Bmw do a genuine top box for the 1100/1150GS which is tha same as the K1100LT but you will need the GS specific mounting plate.

Easy does it

My 1150 came with the whole (plastic) lot - including inner gags and bigger lids for the panniers.

Anyway, the BWM topbox is not nearly as good as the panniers.
It is very, very heavy. The attaching mechanism was not done by Germany's finest. And even then, the plate it attaches to can dismantle itself (the grab rail is an assembly, not a single moulding).

Try to have a look at one before you choose. Again, if you're using your panniers as an indication of what you'll get, you may be disappointed.

I'll second that - the System top box is OK, but not as good as the panniers.

If it matters, the lock is a different design so can't be keyed to the ignition key (unlike the panniers). And if you stuff too much stuff into the top box and force it closed it distorts enough that the lock doesn't latch the latch (so the handle can be opened without unlocking it).

I leave the panniers on the bike for daily use, and only fit the top box if I really need it to carry extra stuff.

Can`t understand why you wouldn`t want a Givi. They are excellent. There are plenty of different designs, including the Trekker ones.

Might be useful to know.

You can only get one crash helmet in the bmw top box. But you can get two in a Givi.

The bmw topbox looks useful, but the locking mechanism protrudes inside the box and takes up a lot of internal space, leaving a funny shaped area.

Thought you might like to see a picture of a BMW topbox, so i've attached one below.

Almost convinced. Perhaps one or two other pieces of evidence? - You know, just to be sure...:D

well thank's for the input, looks like I need to have a look around. only saying about the bmw box to keep the same sort of look and possably coding the key. if givi do a plain black topbox then it might be worth looking into

The bmw topbox key can't be coded to an 1100/1150 bike key as it has a different lock which requires a completely different type of key. ;)

This is fairly plain Givi topbox - picture content not quite as interesting as Steptoe's though ;)
