Hi,
Ive got my first GS. Tyres are shot, its wearing Metzler Tourance tyres.
Are these good? what would you recomend?

Many thanks Grant

"Old" Tourances were the muts nuts in their day. The opposition has now caught up, some would say passed, them in the "looks as if you could go off road with them". Continental Trail Attack won a group test a while back in Motorrad magazine. Had them on my 100GS, just got a set fitted to my 1100. The "new" Tourance doesn't seem to be that much better in the handling stakes compared to the old, but wears out noticeably quicker.

No real bad tyres out there from the major players, the old hands will remember the Death Wing, which changed into the Battlewing which feels 1000% better tyre IMO. Almost down to what you're used to, can get cheap.

And hi :)

Hi and welcome.
Just about any new tyres will do, providing that they are the right size and run at the right pressure.
And I wonder what your second question will be? Plenty places to find out on here so just try a search on your subject and see what comes up.
There`s no such thing as a new question!

As said the old Tourance are pretty darn good, just replaced a set of Michelin Anakee 2's which were plenty good as long as you kept the presures right, exelent in the wet the rear lasted 7000, have changed to the new Tourance EXP M which quicken up the steering, just need to see if Metzeler have sorted the quick wear rate with the new M version.

HI Grantovski.
Tourance are just brilliant. Wont get a better one

Stick with Tourance.. no other will do.:thumb

Not true.............. Tourances are good, but they are not the only weapon of choice. Michelin Anakees are at least as good as a good set of Tourances and Anakees don't crack or cause vibration or wobbles.............. :augie

Don't believe me? Do a search and see the pics of cracked Tourances. I never had any issues with my Tourances, but plenty of tossers have documented their experiences on here.

Can you let us...

know what mileage you get with the EXP's, I use the old ones and usual get around the 10,000+ mark, I am sure one day the old Tourances will disappear....:D

dk motorcycles are doing maxxis tyres for just over £100.00 plus postage they are a bit of a tourance copy they used them on all the marshall bikes at last years tt so cant be that bad

I have only used BT21s and Tourances on mine - have stayed with Tourances because feel are better all round (yes, I know all of them are round :)) and after 5 sets can usually get around 11000 out of a rear and 13000 out of a front, which is about twice as much as I got out of the Bridgestones.

I use TKC 80's .........mud & snow......cos that's what I mostly ride in....!

Had michelin pilot roads fitted to my 1100 as i never venture of road, done about 1000 miles on them now and am delighted with them quieter better steering much more confidence inspiring than the tourances that were on it previously.

Had them on my previous bike (tdm 850) and they were excellent on that as well.
