The Sahara 3's on my Dakar are soon going to be ready for replacing and after lengthy internet searching I am still not 100% sure what to replace them with

I commute 40 miles every day (regardless of weather) and up to now have only used the bike on tarmac but am planning on venturing off road (lanes etc. not full on mud flinging - well maybe a little.... !)

The 2 main contenders I keep coming across are TKC's or Tourances - both get good reviews though the Tourances clearly seem to outlast the TKC's in the mileage stakes.

Has anyone got any experience of these on/off road they can share to aid me in my decision.....

Thanks in advance :beerjug:

i went from sahara 3's to tourances and love em :D

plenty of grip all the way to the edge of the tyre :augie and they last for ages. They aren't as good as the tk's of road tho. Depends on what riding you do. I don't really go off road much, but i do do the odd gravel track and stuff like that and the tourances handle them just fine.

Got tourances on my 06 Dakar. No problems with them, seem to be lasting well. Coped with this mornings downpour without a twitch from them or me :)

On the "old" ones which IIRC were about £140 fitted, but that's an oop north price ;)

Probably replace them with the same when they eventually wear out. Avon Distanzias get some good reviews though.

Tourances are for me!

I'm on my second set of Tourances on my Dakar after replacing original fitment Sahara 3's. I commute 65 miles per day and the last set of Tourances lasted 11000 miles. Definitely much better on the road than the Sahara's. Also used Tourances on my previous 03 650 GS, which I ran for 48000 miles.

i went from Saharas to Tourances on mine with no complaints

the only reason i can see for TKC 80's is regular off-roading

I agree with that said above..... Metzeler Tourance without a doubt :thumb2

They'll cope with the off roading you are planning to do...

Tourance every time :thumb2:thumb2

a mate has a set of TKCs on his HP2 and he says they're rather "interesting" in the wet. so possibly not what you're after.

Hi...I hate to bump in...but perhaps you can help me also...

My rear TKC is pretty worn, and won't last thru Italy and back...but front has loads left on it...

I have a spare rear wheel with a barely used Tourance on it which I picked up a few weeks ago with a 19" front with unused road tire, I intend using on the road thru the winter..

Anyone got any objections to me mounting a Tourance rear, and a keeping TKC front? Can I mix n match? I just don't want to get into something like a weaving Crossply/Radial type situation...

Trip is mainly A roads though France, Luxemburg, Alps to Misano...then bimble back through France...could be 2500-3000 miles ish total. I am planning on doing Stelvio Pass...

Oh My God!

NNNOOOO!

I've seen a few reports of TCX on the F650 giving "interesting" handling at high speeds, including a tank slapper that ejected the rider.

If you can afford the fuel, then why not spend the extra 60 odd quid for a matched pair of new tyres that you know will last the trip, and won't cause unnecessary excitement :rob

Or just fit another TKC on the back, "and goggles on chocks away" Blackadder type saying.

I GET THE PICTURE...WILL SPLASH FOR A NEW TKC...MORE HOLIDAY CASH DTT!

Thanks for the replies guys - looks like it's Tourances then seeing as they will be longer lasting on the road and should cope with any off roading I may venture into :)
