BMW R 1100 GS HAGON REAR SHOCK (without remote reservoir)

Why did they put the spring adjuster at the top of the shock?

All other Hagon shocks ive used have had the damping adjuster at the bottom.

they sell the shock specificly for the 1100, pin at the top fork at the bottom.

The instructions say , to adjust for damping , two up or luggage, REMOVE the shock to adjust....now thats a bright idea:blast

As the GS is the bike you are mostly going to readjust your spring rate, why make it such a pain in the arse to change?

My mate sent his back and asked for a refund for exactly this reason.

And another mate had his damping disappear after 2000 miles and they refused a warranty claim....

my 1100s had one fitted by the previous owner last year. When i brought the bike 5 weeks ago it looked like the original shock! The damping adjuster is seized solid, spring corroded to buggery, all damping gone.

managed to get an original bmw shock for pennies so have exchanged it for that.
 
funny, but i reckon their twin shocks are pretty good.

there does however seem to be a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that their monoshocks are complete toss :confused:
 
Hagons

Yup, Cookie's hit the nail on the head. Simple old school twin shocks from Hagon are pretty good. Got a pair on my CB500, done 25,000 miles with them and still working well. For some reason their monoshocks don't seem up to it.
 
It's not just the manufacturers :blush . I was stupid enough to buy a Wilburs one without the remote preload (I'm surprised Steptoe's not shopped me already).

To make a bad job worse, I managed to snap the bolt that holds the bottom of the shock to the swing arm trying to get the shock off to adjust it! Luckily Steptoe'd got a spare 2nd hand swingarm which he swapped out. I've not been brave enough to try it again.
 
IIRC you could get the remote option added to a Wilburs shock by the importers (Every Accessory/Revs Racing) at extra cost. Might be worth a chat to them to see what cost is involved when the shock next needs a refurb/service ? :nenau

You're absolutely right. I knew this when I ordered it. Momentary (though not according to my girlfriend) lapse of reason. The idea about the refurb though's a good one, ta.
 
I made the same mistake with a budget white power shock. I learned that the way to adjust it was to unbolt the top mount and let the wheel drop down. This might work fine with the original cat piece, but not with the Y piece. The only way to adjust it is to remove from the bike, back to stock I think.
 
I've got a Fournales on mine,took it off to see if in needed rebuilding yesterday,then put it back on.It's only done 140k,and it hasn't got loads of adjustments to feck about with either.I think I put some air in it about two years ago,and that's about all I need to do to a shock.
 
I thought Hagon took on the tooling from Girling (but I could be completely wrong) if that's right it might explain why Hagon twin shocks are quite good :nenau
 
Well...hang on, I was rebuilding a couple of wheels and got a little stuck. Don't write off any company that will take the time to sort out real techy issues, turns out the fault was with me... but i got to talk with their wheel builder and he went through everything and told me where I'd made mistakes and how to put them right. Pretty bloody good in this world of 'well bring it to us and we'll charge you a month's wages to fix it'. More so as he was bob on, which ment i got to finish the job for just the price of a phone call. Full marks to the guys at Hagon's.

But I will say the nitro range is for Harleys only and the damping fades too quickly on the others, if its not leaking on the back wheel after 2,000 miles. But let them have some feed back to sort this out.
