What year was the 1100 first available? And will the 1100 frame fit on an 1150?

Evening folks. My brief interweb search says 1994 for the first 1100 oilhead. Is that right? And, would I be able to swap a frame of that era 1100 into my 1150? Someone here has, if I remember right, used an 1100 frame to make an 1150 or something like that?! Not sure who but I read a thread recently (which I can't find) suggesting such. I may need to do this, can anyone help point me in the right direction? Also, if that is correct, how easy (or not) is it to get hold of an 1100 frame of that age?
TIA

94 n same frame:thumb2 different gearbox:augie
Smart. So in theory, I could buy a '94 1100 frame and bolt it directly to my 1150? Could I just buy one and swap the VIN plates over? Otherwise known as 'ringing' it I believe!

Two questions:-

Where is the rest of the 1100 gone if you only have the VIN/log book?

And where is the 1150 coming from that you want to graft it on to?

Bear in mind that there are a number of UKGSERs that have had GSs stolen, never to be recovered.....!

This smells if not stinks of illegality.

Thanks Sparky, that's the one :thumb2

I don't stink, honest :tears

And I haven't even got an 1100 VIN/log book! :pullface

Well, it's like this you see Mr TimpoSuspicious :comfort ......

I recently moved to lands pleasantly far from blighted Blighty and I'd like to bring my beloved old warhorse 1150 over too. Thing is there are some Draconian rules on vehicle importation here. I may be able to get round them with BMW's help but if not I have to get sneaky. The main rule I have to bypass is "You cannot import a vehicle that is less than 15 year old unless it complies with.... blah blah blah". Pretty stupid but that is the law. Therefore if I replate my year 2000 1150 by effectively turning it into a 1994 1100 then next year I'll be good to go :thumb2

Satisfied? ;)

And before anyone suggests it, even if I wanted to sell there and buy here I wouldn't because I would be substantially out of pocket due to the price differential on 1150's, alot less common here so more pricey. Right now importing my current bike makes better financial sense and anyway I'd NEVER sell my bike! D'ya hear? NEVER!
