What's all this ESA anyhow?

Dynamic/ Road/ Rain/ Enduro/ Enduro Pro is the throttle/ traction mode, Hard/ Soft/ Normal is the DESA setting.:thumb

Thanks Nutty, am I getting confused with dynamic suspension that moves and adjusts automatically to the road conditions rather than the switch on the bars? Or do they not do that? Yep, I really should have read the owners manual and paid more attention at the handover ;)

Does anyone know if you can have BMW install Dynamic ESA on a Standard R1250GS ADVENTURE. Mine does not come with this package.

Yes you can if you order it from the factory...;)
On a standard you don't but Ohlins TTX will fit and are as good as ESA...:D

I am sure it is possible but the cost would be prohibitive

Now are you sure it does not have it as BMW have not sold many without it and IIRC there is a special factory order that takes months in the making to get a GS without ESA

I just cannot be impressed with so called top quality suspension that breaks after 18000 miles and cannot be repaired, by BMW! Replacements at £1500 each end.
I know a suspension expert who runs a business working on all sorts of suspension, provides courses on servicing and setting up, who also works on BSB bikes. He doesn’t rate the Sachs units. He said the ones on my 13 LC cost BMW less than £100, so hardly quality. My 1250 has Ohlins TTX, that’s quality.

Yes better tractive or TT and just buy electronic box, and ask BMW to do firmware.

I would put Ohlins TTX on mine but Ohlins has their heads up their arse making it not ESA compatible...:(

Who is the suspension expert you know ?

Genuine question?

On my fourth "special" non ESA GS. Longest wait for 4 weeks shortest 2 weeks? Only extra was heated grips + cruise control. What is the situation now, I don't know.

I don't think that's Ohlins..... I think that's BMW being cnuts

Ohlins spent ages trying to set up an ESA system, but I suspect BMW won't agree on terms and keep changing the setup.

Touratech and Tractive had BMW employees on side to help them develop their ESA setup.

So I suspect its Corporate Contract (Money) bollicks stopping them....
