whats best

as some of you may have seen from a previous thread I'm having a spot of bother synching my TB's so what the best bit of kit to do this with

twinmax ?
cartune ?
vacuum guages ?
homemade (length of tubing with oil in it) I have tried this but didn't really get on with it, unless I was doing something wrong but it just seem to jump the oil about without giving a good stable reading.

I know this is an old topic but I would appreciate any words of wisdom from those in the know.

Me and Steptoe tried to make one out of fish tank pipe and brake fluid when he serviced my bike and forgot his carbtune.

We failed

I would recommend the carbtune as i think its the best for your money,,
If you make your own system don`t forget that the pipes need dampers to soften the pulses,, try fitting an micro pipe inside the tube or a old no plate plastic screw (headless) inserted into the pipe works,, (carbtune early method..)..

Use carbtune 11 have had it for years, used it on everything fron gsxr's to bmw always with good results ( it's the one with the metal rods)

I'd say that brake fluid would be too thin and wouldn't self damp. TQF needs to be left overnight once you've sucked the fluid into the tube to get rid of any air bubbles. After that its perfect.!!

I had the old mercury carbtune but reckon the rod ones may not be as accurate because of manufacturing tolerances. The U tube using TQF should be accurate as it is measuring the difference in pressure (Vacuum) between the two cylinders (both are connected one at either end of the U tube). Its resolution should be about 15 time better than mercury as mercury has a specific gravity of 13.61. TQF has an SG of .85-.9 depending on the manufacturer.

Easy as pie. Slacken the cables at the throttle (in case they are slightly opening a throttle). Adjust the tick over screws at tick over until the oil does not rise on either side of the tube. Rev bike to about 2000 revs and check that oil stays level. If not slacken the lock nut(s) at the offending side and adjust tension using the ferule. when all is honky dory tighten up the lock nuts. Re-check. Tighten throttle cable at the throttle leaving about 2mm play. Re-check. Takes a bit of time the first time you do it but its a <10min job after that.

I did try this method but without much success maybe I needed longer lines and a bigger bore, I also thought normal oil would be thick enough for this method

what bore and lenght of line didi you use ?

About 3m of 4mm bore. Engine oil would be too viscous I reckon.

Did you connect either end of your U tube to both throttle bodies? I kept the length of tube equal either side of the bend as well. Also do your balancing after you adjust the valves. Good Luck
