What's caused this then? (not GS related)

Switched the ignition on inthe Citroen Picasso the other day and then noticed some weird marks on the LCD display.

Ideas so far have been an insect in the display (certainly the pattern is pretty random like an insect crawling around), a scratch (it definitely isn't as it's inside the screen), dirt (can't quite see how dirt would cause such a random pattern), back seat passenger smoking dope

Any other ideas?
