What's fallen off your Harley recently....?

I lost my complete air cleaner assembly on a French motorway a few years ago. I looked behind me to see this great big lump bouncing along the carriageway

To be fair (ish) it was an aftermarket fitment. I'd fitted a Mikuni carb and used the standard HD Screaming Eagle air cleaner assembly which was recommended. Later, when HD brought out their own SE/Mikuni carb they improved the mounting system. You can see in the pic where the brackets sheared off through vibration.

I found a campervanner in a lay-by who let me have his metal tea strainer which made a pretty good repair. Thanks mate if you're reading this :thumb2

Quality, that tea strainer suits....

Nothing's fell of my Harley.......yet.

I had my Harris silencer section come away from the 4 down pipes on the m- way at about90 or so...trouble is... the rear bracket held it on so the front of it pivoted down and jammed in the road with an almighty bang.

This then lifted the whole bike up as it tried to pole vault using the silencer section as the pole - luckily the bracket broke and it let go at the crucial point.....only to be partly flattened by a truck.

....then there was the time the engine fall out of my type2 vw bus in a traffic jam.....

2009 Harley with around 55,000km rode, nothing has fallen off, no faults to report, plenty tyre wear though and a big grin factor :aidan

I had a Road King Classic and was riding oacross the Dartford bridge and went to chage up a gear and the rear half of the gear lever was gone :blast

Wasn't a problem so carried on until I got home and bought a replacement. From then on I always carried a small pair of Molegrips to use as a temporary gear lever "just in case"

Just gave the harley it's a once a year once over once i'd got over having to give it a once over, and found the R/H silencer was an eighth of an inch from falling off.
Once i'd got over it, once again (that's twice i've had to get over it), i wrapped some roof flashing around the silencer and hit it onto the down pipe, and cable tied the end mount to the pannier rail.

That's happened twice now, that's once too often for my liking.

you should try using a silencer clamp round the front bit instead of a cable tie - they are actually made for the job...:augie:augie
