We are going to be in Filey , West Burton in the Dales and Northowram (Halifax) over the next couple of weeks - arring on 15th in Filey. I am bringing Mrs Gecko home for a bit of convalesing, she's been a bit poorly, so we are in the car but is there anything happening in God's own country that we (I) shouldn't miss ;) ?

Nothing specific springs to mind Marc but if Mrs Gecko is feeling up to a pub meal one evening whilst in Northowram I'm sure one or two of us might want to join you :) I can highly reccomend this place Ring O' Bells for superb grub and drink. it's about 5 miles away from Northowram so not too much of a drive :)

Maybe see you soon
Jez

If you are still around on Saturday 24th it's the Scott trial based in Reeth in Swaledale. Mr Lampkin normally participates.

Google it. I think it's run by Richmond motor club

It's a nice ride/drive up the coast from Filey to Scarborough (you can have a go 'round Olivers Mount) then Robin Hoods Bay,Whitby (try fish and chips at The Magpie or pie and peas at The Humble Pie) Sandsend and Saltburn. Not far inland, Stokesley's nice (market day Friday) also handy from Filey is Beverley, market day Saturday,a proper market selling loads of local produce (no coloured gentlemen selling anoraks)
Anywhere's nice 'round West Burton, try Middleham (imposing castle) Hawes (more fish and chips, she's not on a diet is she?) Tan Hill (highest pub in England) Kettlewell or Grassington. All lovely places even if the weathers a bit iffy.
As for Northowram,I say old chap,I do believe that's in WEST Yorkshire . How "lower deck" :)

I'll have you know we are travelling P.O.S.H. dear chap - no steerage for us dontcha know :ChrisKelly ... and as for a diet , yes she is - her diet is to put on as much weight as possible - she needs to pile on the pounds so those fish n chip stops sound perfect :thumb Chemo and radiation therapy seem to equate to substantial weight loss so this will be good counter therapy .

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. That trial sounds intersting - we don't head back until the 26th :thumb2 I'll investigate further.

Jez - I'll see how things are and maybe drop you a note about meeting up. It would be good to see you again - last time was at Rosedale - bloomin ages ago !!

As a follow on to this - are there any nice gentle green lanes that I can take in to cross the North Yorks moors or the Dales ? I am in a Freelander II so can handle a bit of a puddle or two but don't want it too rough because Mrs G isn't up for getting bounced about too much really. Just wondering if I could plot a gentle cross country route from the coast towards Aysgarth in the Dales ?

Don't know about off-roading in a Freelander, you don't want to go too far from where the RAC Transit can get to you.:augie
JEEP rules.:hide
If it's quiet lanes (especially mid-week) you're after, anywhere in the North Yorks Moors national park. From Whitby across to Egton,Goathland ("Heartbeat" country) Glaisdale, the lovely Rosedale Abbey,Kirkbymoorside,Helmsley, the even more lovely Reivaulx Abbey,Ripon,Bedale,Leyburn,up to Downholme then across Swaledale through Reeth,Crackpot and Askrigg to Aysgarth.
Good bakery in Helmsley (walk towards the castle, your nose will alert you when the bakery is close by) Great pork and apple pies from Appletons butchers in Ripon and excellent food at The Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton near Aysgarth. Please don't get the idea that I just ride around stuffing my face,by the way.
As for chemo,SWMBO had Leukaemia a few years back and, thanks to a Bone Marrow transplant and lots of chemo, she's as right as a bobbin now :D
Twice as fierce, but right as a bobbin.

take care

Thanks for the tips I'll see about making a few pie shop waypoints on the satnav :thumb2 Mrs Gecko had her Bone marrow transplant at the end of April and is slowly getting back .... phew what a battle it has been (and still is sometimes) Maybe we should come past Starbeck and your missus can inspire mine !;)

Give me a call when you're in the area. We could meet for lunch somewhere.
T.F. aka Dave Terry,07961 406 524.:)
I'm just packing the GS up for tomorrow.........six of us (4 GS's, a Tiger and a Tuono) are away to bonnie Scotland in the morning. Why is it,when you run your own business, you feel guilty about having a few days off? Just let me get up that Great North Road.:D
