Came back from a long ride on Tuesday turned off the ignition and removed the key. The engine stopped but, the parking lights and warning lights on the dash stayed on, also 'EWS' was displayed in HUGE letters on the LCD screen, which I haven't seen before. This is odd I thought so put the key back in and turned it to the start position but it wouldn't start. Turned off the key again and the same thing happened. I was dying for a pee, so I went in and when I came back it had turned itself off and was working correctly. Anyway the same thing happened today. So what's going on? Is there a fault or have I done something stupid?

I think you experienced an EWS(1), which would not go away before fixed.

(1) Emergency Weeing Situation

:beerjug: :D ;)

Seriously, got no idea, but knowing software, it might just have been "temperamental"...

Got the GS back today after two weeks at Wollastons having the above fault sorted. It turns out there were problems with several components. All were changed including the canbus (whatever that is) ignition switch (not the barrel, just the electronic bit) and the alternator. Whilst it was away I also had the Remus and top box fitted. Wollaston did a fantastic job all round.

It's great to have the GS back. Wollasons lent me a K1200GT whilst the GS was away being fixed. I liked the smoothness of the K's motor and the ease with which the bike would hold any line I picked. The weather protection was superb and the heated seat fantastic, especially with the weather the way it was last week but, the ride home on the GS convinced me that it has one thing the GT didn't, the fun factor in bucket loads.

Is the K1200GT just a slightly updated version of the old K1200RS/GT or a completely new model?

It replaced the RS at the begining of last year I think.
