Whats happened to my gear stick ?

Can anyone explain this please....? Got on the bike and tried to kick the side stand back, the gear lever and the side stand springs were entangled
Nothing untoward has happened to cause this, no crashes, no drops (well not on the LHS).
All the gear linkages from lever to gearbox are ok, nothing is loose, nothing looks fiddled with or broken. Side stand looks and moves ok.
I have since adjusted the pedal on the splined shaft to lift it higher at the front, but it is now too high for comfort when changing gear... the problem only occurs when going into 1st and the pedal seems to go excessively low before springing back up to where it should be...or sticking there...
I don't understand what can have happened to cause this...
Bike is a 56 GS 1200 with 25k. Has this happened to anyone before ?

the gear lever looks like it has moved in on the shaft loosen it off and slide it out so the face of the lever and shaft are flush could work

There are likely to be some other small marks if it's been over - mirrors?, bar ends? cylinder heads, or protection bars etc.

Yup. I'd say dropped. Or someone reversed into it while it was parked (unlikely though).

Ok...thanks guys for the advice, so its a cross between a right-off, bent framed, bent stand, dropped or knocked over.....possible driven into, and it needs a minor tweek to the lever. I've gone for the lever adjustment on the shaft and we'll see tomorrow, can't be bothered to go out tonight...the cat is comfy on me lap now. The mark on the end of the lever is only wear from me boot...

Agreed. The lever is definitely bent and looks pushed in on the splines.

The mark on the end of the lever is only wear from me boot...

It might be an idea to start wearing leather boots then, I think Mike is on the button, there is also a scrape or scratch along the bottom edge of the lever as well.

Looking at the sidestand, I can see the development that's gone into the spring arrangement since the days of the airhead. Zero.

Look for the person in agony with a knackered back due to lifting up a GS, somewhere near to where you park.
