What's happening to Gnarley Harley..?

I can't help but feel it would be easier and cheaper to not buy the waistcoat and just write "Wanker" on their forehead. It would get the point across just as effectively.

Brilliant!:jes:jes

It seems there's a gaggle of sniggerers gathering in the corner of the playground, all looking and whispering about the new boy in the shorts. 'Lets make sure he doesn't play with US, eh?'

The ironic thing is, he probably doesn't give a hoot about what you think as he doesn't need you to be his friend. He's confident about his abilities and able to make his own friends.

I can't believe the peurility of those who feel the need to huddle and cat call others simply over a choice of clothing. Is this really 2012 biking?

Jeez..

You've bought one of those waistcoats haven't you? :D

..

Ya reckon? I think it's more .......I want to look like a biker 'cause I is well 'ard innit?
Souns like a touch of insecurity trying to hard to be "one of the lads" rather than a "confident man" to me..........:augie

Nonsense :blast

No one would wear something like that, for the reasons you cite, unless mentally ill :augie

My point remains, sir.

I simply fail to see the pleasure in schoolboy sniggering at a fellow riders personal choice, when we all enjoy biking in all it's guises. The world of biking is one of the last bastions of classless society, where riders stand shoulder to shoulder, be they bank managers or road sweepers, round the world types or commuter.

I couldn't give a toss whether someone got their waistcoat off the web complete with badges and neither should I; to me it's a someone to nod to or chat with out there doing what I enjoy most. Biking.

And no, I'm not a HOG road captain and won't be unless they admit Urals. What I do know however, is that they make my job of organising the annual Ride To The Wall much simpler with their enthusiasm and skills. Try getting the BMW club that motivated..

Ok in all seriousness (just for a moment mind). Most of the conversation was centred around buying a particular waistcoat from Ebay not about one person. I find it staggering to think a grown adult would wear something like that but hey! wear what you like, go out in a pink tutu for all I care.

The person you are referring to is not on this site and is not known to anybody except Mutley who gave a very generic description of the guy. On reflection, yes it was probably somewhat bitchy, but as nobody knows who he is and is unlikely to, then no harm done. Looking back, yes, I accept your point to a degree.

I think we/I were really slating a type. The type who is probably rather insecure and feels the need to project a 'I'm hard, me' image and looks up to the whole moronic patch club culture and buys into the 'brotherhood' bullshit. I've known various people (years ago) who got involved with that crap and either eventually saw that it was a load of bollocks and left or very nearly ended up dead or imprisoned for their trouble.

When I see people wearing 'Support' clothing I despair, a load of sycophantic cobblers. The clubs in question probably look at the people buying into it as complete mugs.

Next point: "biking is one of the last bastions of classless society". I'm afraid i disagree there. A more snobby, divided society you would be hard pushed to find. Just look at any motorcycle website. Sports riders dislike Harley riders, who dislike BMW riders who dislike everybody.
I know in the real world it is a little different. I will talk to most people if I am interested in talking to them/if they are interested in talking to me.

I had to laugh once. I had been riding a seriously scruffy/scabby looking DR800 for about 12 years. I came into a little money and bought a new 1200GS (first and last new bike). The first weekend I had bought it, I was filling up with petrol (along with some other motorcyclists) and riding out of the garage when I overheard a guy say "typical BMW rider". This was obviously aimed at me. I guess I must of missed him nodding at me or something, who knows. I fell about laughing as I left. I thought, Christ, I've only had the bike 2 days and I'm already a typical BMW rider.

I'm just a bloke that likes motorcycles, nothing more, nothing less. You can analyse my choice of bikes and choice of (pretty generic) clothing till you are blue in the face,

I do chuckle at the whole 'we are special because we ride bikes' thing. I guess you get that in all walks of life. Go to a Tiddly winks convention and I'm sure you'll find a similar attitude somewhere. All part of the human condition I suppose (Tribal/Pack mentality I guess – something we all do to some degree).

Anyway it is not my wish to upset anybody, here or anywhere else. I will poke a bit of fun sometimes, but I genuinely have no desire to cause offence.

Anyway, on a lighter note (if you will still talk to me!). As you are involved with the Ural thingamabob. Would you happen to have any info about the Ural meet/show once a year held in Irbit, Russia (Ural Mountains). It's just myself and a mate are planning on going this year and any info would be very gratefully received. We can't seem to find any info for this years show yet (maybe too early). Would be a bit of a pisser to do a 6000 mile round trip and get the wrong weekend.

Peace, love and bananas :beerjug:

Oh, I don't know......you're having quite a good go......:D

Have to agree with you 100%....:thumb

I must admit one thing i struggle with is the fixation with "vets" the HD/GOLDWING/Virago/Wild star boys seem to have....... seems to be rubbing off from US websites....... whilst i absolutely respect the Armed Forces and the work they do on behalf of our government and ultimately us.... i struggle to see the connection/attraction.......of riding a wing/glide covered in HfH and RTTW stickers.....

i guess i feel the same about toy runs and Easter egg runs........

not wishing to be controversial just don't get it:nenau

Some of the biggest twats i know ride bikes.

I do chuckle at the whole 'we are special because we ride bikes' thing.:

You're not the only one, I've never understood all that biking brotherhood bollox.
Especially when that UKGSer forum member was imprisoned last year for being a peado. :D
Just think of all the fellow bikers waving to their fellow brother on the road :clap

Oh Jesus! It's happened sooner than either of us thought. I've become as jaded as you! :D

You're mixing up "bikers" and "motorcyclists".......:D ...and there's nothing wrong with being motorcyclists....but there most definitely is a "biking brotherhood".. though it ain't nothing that the majority on here are likely to come across......No offence intended.:)
