Sept 04, Blue / Grey 12 GS, 15K miles, heated grips and ABS. Good clean condition.

I've just been offered £6250 as a trade in, which seems low. What could I expect from a private sale ?

Depends what you are buying but l was offered as low as £6500 px April 05 12GS 19000mls against a ADV.

Offered £6.8k against a new K1200R - which was also being offered with a £900 discount if you took out the balance on BMW finance -they must be having difficulty in getting them shifted off the sales floor. Tempted I was, very tempted. But in the end decided to keep the GS as it meets my needs best - touring, commuting, weekends out etc. Mind you that 1200r I took out for a test ride didn't half move...

Thanks for your input. I was a little insulted by the offer. There's no way I'd let the bike go for that. I'll either keep it or go the private route. Cheers.

BMW dealers' trade in prices really drop when you do more than the "average" 4000 miles a year. Which is kinda dissapointing for a bike marketed as a "go anywhere tool". But the situation is the same in the jap bike world. For an example, I was idly discussing trade ins with my dealer recently ... he said a 54 plate bike in good condition with 7k miles would be worth over 7 grand (trade in) but with 27,000 miles (what mine has) more like 5,500 quid.

It seems to be a buyer's market at the moment though ... you will get more privately but there are loads of 1200s for sale, and a lot of them with relatively low mileage too.
