What's 'pinking' and do I have it?

Hi folks,

Probably been asked a lot and though I searched I couldn't 100% assure myself...

If I try to accelerate from low revs I sometime get a sort of rattle from the underside of the bike - sounds almost like a loose exhaust on a car -goes once the revs climb though.

Is that what 'pinking' is and if so, how do I overcome it?

If you can't find anything loose/broken/rattling then the quickest and easiest way to find out is to fill the tank with BP Ultimate or Shell V Power. If the noise goes away then it was pinking and the probable cause was poor quality fuel. If it still makes the noise on high-octane fuel, then it's not pinking (unless ther'es something seriously wrong inside your engine)

I found the culprit!

Was 2 loose bolts - the bolts that attached the collector box to the centre stand - both were loose.
