So the story that he won it on a horse was horse dung - who could be surprised at that.
Politicians + planning + property developers = corruption.
The tax payer will pick up a big tab to establish what the dogs in the street already knew but it is good to see it written down.

Mahon could not prove Bertie corrupt but does not believe his accounts of where the money came from. I guess we will hear the few remaining cheerleaders majoring on the no corruption finding.

In the meantime there is a bit of an old recession to be getting past - a recession that had its genesis in a property bubble.
Politicians + planning + property developers [corruption] + unregulated banking = property bubble.
Property bubble + greed = recession.

Of course we voted these politicians into government - democracy & all that :ronno

funny, he didnt know where the money in his account came from

But he new the results from all the past dublin football games

Leaving Bertie aside what about this guy: -

THE TRIBUNAL is satisfied that an IR£50,000 donation sought "wrongly and corruptly" by former EU Commissioner Padraig Flynn from Tom Gilmartin was used for his personal benefit.

It is also satisfied that the IR£50,000 funded at least a significant part-purchase of a farm in Co Mayo in the name of Flynn’s wife and was not used except minimally for political expenditure associated with him.

But it was the appearance of Flynn on The Late Late Show in 1999 that became a talking point long after the interview aired and prompted Gilmartin to give evidence at the Tribunal.

In it he boasted of his £100,000 salary, numerous houses as well as housekeepers but it was an apparent comment about the £50,000 payment to Fianna Fail and an attack on the emotional stability of Mr Gilmartin that was key.

Unknown to him, Gilmartin was watching at home in London.

It was after this appearance that Gilmartin agreed to give evidence to the Tribunal.

I think the saddest part is the pensions these crooks are drawing,..................

Out of your pocket. It's the same over here. Take Mandelson as a prime example, twice forced to resign due to scandal and public outrage. Shifted into the EU in a very well paid number plus massive expenses and then made a Lord by the government that nearly bankrupted the UK. Easy street for the rest of his life. He's not the only one, half the EU commissioners are shoved sideways to get their incompetent carcasses out of domestic politics.
