What's the least you've seen a 1200 sell for?

It's got me wondering 1200's have been out quite a while now and at the moment when bikes on a whole aren't shifting fast and some dealers won't even take ones in as trade-ins.... so what is the true value now of a 1200?

£3500 :D but as a rule £4500 upwards theres alot around though very few under £5000. someone will prob disagree but thats what i see:thumb2
 
Don't know and don't care...62,000 miles and when I get to 150,000 miles I'll put it in a skip and flog it for parts.

Not selling my baby......
 
My question isn't a piss take i was trying to find out what the "real" secondhand price is on an 1200 i've sees loads of early ones "advertised" over the £5000 price mark but they seem very slow to sell... usually if a bike is priced right it will sell.

I'm wondering is it the glut of Ewan wannabe boyos selling because they are now bored with the 1200 and want the latest ducati?

Is it the fear of possible Big repair costs on a 1200 and that people want to have a cushion of money to allow for that when they look to buy early secondhand?

Is there a even a fear of 1200 failure when you buy an early out of bmw warranty one?

Does a full BMW service history make it much more desirable secondhand
since most seem to be around 30,000 they should not have had any real servicing needed other than fluid changes and basic checks?

Is there a mileage limit you would not buy a 1200 above or at a certain mileage the price would have to drop loads to make it buyable?

If a bike has been in getting loads of different faults fixed do you think of that bike now as more or less desirable that a bike that has needed no work... or does this make no difference to you if you were a potential buyer?
 
there is definitely a floating market in the biking world as i am sure honda will tell you when Rossi started racing yamahas. :D

BWM benifitted from LWR/LWD and i am sure alot of those who bought in to it are now turning to something else, new stelvio, dukes, etc... and there will be a glut of bikes for sale representative of that change....

they made and sold so many 1200s that prices will reflect that aswell....

Interested more that care

Seem to be a huge amount of 1200's for sale and not selling.. compared to 1150's and was trying to figure out what was stopping people buying the 1200.

I think the second hand prices are too high but was wondering is that true and are 1200's selling if they are at a good price.

the other questions i maybe should have asked is the 1200 not all it was cracked up to be for some and is it possibly the 1150 looks more hardcore and not as plasticy as the standard 1200

There's definatley more 1200's for sale than 1150's, though they've sold more so thats no supprise. Although people seem to be just as unrealistic with there pricing on 1150's. I'd certainly think that my 55 plate has now lost 50% of it's value, so i'd think £4500 was a fair price.

I think the days of BMW's holding there value went at the same time that they started selling them by the container load. Equally the perceived/real lack of quality has moved the brand back down to/or below the japanese bikes level.

I think the 1200 was all that it was said to be, a lighter, updated version of the the 1150. As for the 1150 looking more hardcore, well beauty (or lack of it) is in the eye of the beholder.

Market conditions are as bad as they have ever been and coupled with the huge quantities of 1200`s around, the 2nd hand price is bound to be bad at the moment.

I think the 1100/1150 prices have dropped dramatically as well. People are still advertising their bikes at unrealistic prices and won`t achieve them.

I have just traded my 06 1200 23,000 miles FSH etc etc for my Tiger. I trawled around lots of different dealers, as you do. While no one refused to take the bike as a trade in it was clear some of the dealers did not want it by the price offered. £1200 below book in one case, £200 above book for the deal I took.

Whether deserved or not the 1200 does have a reputation for "issues" in some dealer quarters.

Whats worth mentioning is while I was looking for a replacement I considered lots of different bikes and searched the net for owners comments. Every single bike I was interested in had someone on a web forum complaining about one thing or another.

It's not just GS's and not just bikes. In fact it's not just automotive gear that's not selling.

Look around - everything from houses to furniture to retail is not shifting - unless there's a large and well publicised price slash. Look at M&S 20% off day. Good on the day, but I know its tailed off now.

In any sector, the premium-priced (e.g. GS) end of the market is vulnerable. The Lidls, Morrisons and scooter ends of the various markets are winning more trade. Many (but not all, wouldn't want to generalise or doom-monger:augie) peeps are buying what they need and not what they want right now.
 
went back to an 1150

:hideHi Traded my 1150gs ( brilliant bike )in for a new 1200 early last year,and had nothing but trouble with it, it spent more time at the dealers than in my garage which is a crazy state of affair with a bike costing over £10k. Sold it early this year, took a big loss on it , and went back to an old 2004 1150 Adv, one of my better decisions, at least I feel more confident on it than the 1200. This is just my personal view and story, so please no irate replies from 1200 owners, but its just a fact of life that, crazy as it seems 1150 adv. are a better buy than the 1200, which dealers and that includes BMW dealers are not interested in.

Gary, mine is an 06 with 40k on it. A bit used off road :augie and I got offered £4000 against a new adventure.

Me thinks I`ll be keeping it though as we have been through a lot together.

Ive spent more time laid down next to it than I have the wife this year:D
