Heading north of the border on Sunday 6th, first night a few miles up from Inverness, then travelling NW on Monday (via some dolphin spotting in the Moray firth) then Fort William and Edinburgh.

Well, you can try this link for the Met. Office to give you an idea - but they are saying it's sunny in Inverness right now and I can assure you it isn't!

We'll enjoy it I'm sure. it will be my 4th trip up to Scotland in 3 years, I've done the glorious sunshine and the first trip when it pissed down through Glencoe, so much so that you couldn't see anything of the scenery. Never tire of the great roads, friendly folks and breathtaking views.

Dolphins are a slight detour on our second day so we'll be watching from shore (it's free for the 5 yorkshiremen who're doing the trip!!)

Going to Chanonry Point on the Black Isle for that, by any chance? Great place to watch them very close to the beach.
Perhaps you already know this, and apologies in advance if you do, but to increase your chances of seeing them, try to be there about an hour after low tide.

monday is light rain ,tuesday heavy rain but saturday to be nice heading for ullapool on saturday and then onto cape wrath and durness should be home by wednesday

Chanonry Point is an excellent place to see them and as you are heading NW from Inverness wouldn't be too far off your route (assuming you are going directly NW?).
