Got a loaner from BMW North Oxford whilst my GSA is having its gearbox and clutch replaced/rebuilt/tinkered with.

Its a 2010 GS but noticed this little contraption attached to the exhaust - any ideas what it is ?

Apologies if already the subject of a million threads...

'Power valve' / 'Emissions check' valve, 'Flap thing' or whatever people chose to call it this month.....

* Electronically controlled exhaust flap for an aggressive muscular sound.

Did you notice the twin cam heads?

I believe the technical term is 'Fruity Valve' :D

I thought likewise (had a go on one a couple of weeks ago) - sounded great and went like stink (mind you, I do ride an 1100 ;) )

It'll be interesting to see how these power valves cope with a couple of winters and river crossings etc (for those that do that sort of thing on a £14k bike ;) )

More complexity, more weight, more to go wrong, more to keep the dealer workshops busy, more profit for dealers.

What's not to like?

Even on your polished and preened sportsbikes they eventually stick is some inconvenient position. I'm sure that wouldn't happen on a BMW however.

Well I love my exhaust flappy thing - it sounds great and the bike has loads more low down torque - this new engine and exhaust and what ever else they have done is a big improvement.

This is the biggie - the new fiendishly complicated cylinder head with odd shaped cams :D
