What's this tie rod?

I have seen pics of a few old airheads with this tie rod. What is it? Frame stiffening??,

Is there such a rod on both sides of the bike ?
Why would the frame need to be stiffened, what intended use for the bike which requires it to be fitted ? Some form of load lugging, sidecar fitment ??

I think it was Wüdo in Germany that did frame stiffening parts (and other tuning bits for the old Boxers) to enhance roadholding That frame brace strut was just one of them, also made for around the steering head bracing

I copied their rear swinging arm for my old R100RS

A solution looking for a problem ....
