It's called a highly scratchable and easily breakable exploding plastic non protective get in the way add on deflector.

An american company makes a full fairing for the 1150 GS in a similar material.

Looks like an attack of the Myterons

'Supposed' to deflect the wind away as per many other things designed to offset the lightening your wallet with weight on the bike. Also great at making the rain whip up into your eyes (as do the hand guard extenders).
