Hi All

when cleaning my bike the other day I noticed the lack of paint on the underside of the Beak, mine is Red so pretty noticeable. what I have is patchy coverage or just red overspray and the primer coat visible.

are they all like that? am I being fussy or should it be as good a finish on the underside as it is on the top? (premium price for a premium brand)
next time I am at the dealers I will have a look at another to see if its the same.

I cant post a picture sorry

Terry :)

Yeah mate, mine is the same.
Why do you care? Mine is usually covered in dirt under there.
Not sure i care if its gloss covered in dirt

BMW have been doing the same since 1994

Have a look at the underside of the beak on a 1100/1150/1200 GS & you'll see the same

Premium brand? You're having a laugh, aren't you?

Been a while since BMW achieved that :(

Don't stress

As mine is grey, its not as noticeable. BMW have been doing this for years on their cars. Look around the engine bay and under the bonnet of most of their light coloured cars, and most of them are just primered.:rob:blast

I would not worry about something you can't see I'd be more concerned about the dog shit welding and the splatter on the frame FFS they spend millions on R&D then weld the frame with a turd stick.

Couldn't agree more. Didn't stop me buying one though. ;)

I thought bikes might be different

Yes I am aware the cars are not top coat painted in the engine bays I have a 3 series,
I just thought maybe the bike would have a bit of paint under there admittedly you have to get your head down low to see,
Im not bothered by it just thought I would ask.

I spend most of my time riding it and having fun using it. Its a fun addictive bike and ive now covered 1600 miles in 3 weeks :thumby:

Also as some of you may have noticed I actually work for BMW (Mini) :blast

I have no real gripe about the bike I think it is brilliant and they have moved forwards a long way with this model, and got a best seller again.

cheers Terry :beerjug:

The merchandising should always be in the shops for the launch, BMW should have stepped up to meet this for a late spring delivery, peeps want the gear for the summer. They need to take a leaf out of Disney & Pixar:D

Had a Triumph Thunderbird 1600 which had a rear metal mudguard in various shades of thrown on undercoat underneath which I sprayed up myself having been warned that they go rusty if not.
Now I find that BMW are saving pennies on the front beak in the same way but, hey, not such a big deal as the Triumph, at least it's plastic and won't go rusty. Progress of a sort?
I suppose what bothers really is the dismantling of the brand image we have in our minds.
Great bike though, eh?
