What's with the GS1100 Market at present ?

Hmm ... have just watched a 1994 1100 sell on ebay ... and pinching myself slightly.
1994 !! - looked in , ........ err , ........... well ,.......... not the best of condition exactly - virtually no MOT left , scrap rear tyre , ABS not working ... and it sold for £1950 (or £2310 if you wanted it serviced , new tyre and MOT) .... 9 people chasing it (bidding).
I'm sure the dealer selling it is delighted (assuming he gets paid) , but does this seem a "correct" price , given time of year , condition , etc etc ??

You won't get many advertised for under 2k... They certainly hold their money last year I paid £3250 for a nice 1100.

That one Steptoe sold recently was a bargain and several were in the queue to buy it, me included.

The "correct price" is the price someone will pay for it.

I remember Vern asking £6500 for his minter not so long ago.

I seriously considered trading up from my 1100 to a mint 1150GSA or even 1200 last year. In the end I just couldn't see that much extra value for the outlay.

£3k plus for a well sorted example - fantastic value for money

BUT if its a snotter - it can be one hell of a money pit to put right.

I got one from Steptoe just over a year ago for a Morocco trip for around 2k. Money well spent. I'm taking it down again in a coupla months.

I had a 1200 a few years back, and like Waterloo, wouldn't want to spend the extra 3-4k on another one.
The 1100 is good value for the money.

R1100GSes are slowly becoming cult bikes just like R80G/S & R100GSes that can cost redicilous money for their model years and technical condition. Although R1100s are not there yet - thankfully. But probably in the forseeable future. The funky "awkward" design (love or hate it) and arguably it's the model that catapulted GS into a modern era while keeping traditions.

If you can get a well maintained one it's a bloody good investment. They got character, rust very little, maintenance and running costs are low and the engines are good for 200 000+ miles.

But as said, if you get a lemon it can be a lot of dosh to put it right - i.e. gearbox rebuild, new clutch, FD, can consume oil. That's why I'd recommend '97-99 models that have improved boxes to take away one big "IF" factor, but you pay accordingly for the model year, too...

The "point" of the "question" (if there is such a thing) - other people (self included) have recently advertised such things on here - in the say £2000 to £2500 range and have NOT been innundated with interest. They are typically MOT'd, sorted , good tyres , extras, loved etc etc ... then this pops up - sees demand , and sells for a price not much less. Just looks odd to me
Maybe I should forget about trying to sell again on here , and just go the ebay route ... seems all wrong to me

You have to remember that most people on here already own a GS so it's not the huge bike market you may think it is.

There are some things you can't put a price on - I'd much rather sell at a fair price on UKGSer than get more money having to deal with utter twats on bay.

Yes - I think the advert said it was "missing" a fork seal
(They take literally about 10 mins ... or less , to change ... don't cost a lot ... and aren't really proper fork seals anyway).
Wonder did the bidder have a white stick or a dog ??

I understand the value being placed on the 1100, it has a bit of character.
I bought my 1100GS in '96 brand new and kept it till 2011, fancied a change for no reason I can now fathom and still miss it. I sold it to a mate for £2000 (He paid me £1750 eventually, mates, what can you do!!!).
Bought a 1200GSA but that was stolen a month later!!!!!!!, I don't mourn it's loss, it never felt like the 1100 did it was just a machine I was riding, but it wasn't my bike if you understand what I mean.
I've now bought a mint 2001 1150GS with 2500miles on the clock for £5000 and I'll probably keep it for 15 years like I did my 1100
Even so the 1150 doesn't feel like my 1100 did to me, yet.

Fook, thats cheap. I paid 1100 quid for a 97 bike with 113k mls. Its cosmetically challenged but rides as sweet as, gearbox and clutch done at 88k, so should be good for up to 200k in my book.....
