What've I done wrong?

During some routine maintenance it was necessary to remove the tank. The tank has been replaced and everything reconnected but the bike is running like a dog!!
It will start OK but struggles to tick over. While riding it backfires on the over run.
Other than that it seems OK, in that it still does the expected speed at the expected RPM and fuel economy seems to be unaffected.
Is there something I’ve missed or done wrong??

Check that the throttle cable outers are seated correctly.

As Steve suggests, the symptoms you describe are classic.

Check both sides, though it's usually the right side that's at fault - it should look like this...

But I'm betting yours looks like this...

Problem Solved.

It was as you all correctly summised.
