Wheel hole ???

Setting off home from work tonight I noticed that I've got a bigger hole in my rear wheel than I seem to remember

The bit I mean is in the middle between the bolts holding the wheel on. Shouldn't there be a widget of some kind there ???

My bike is an 1150GS btw

...and that means you get air in the kardan oil! Your bike just died.
You can melt the bike and make nails from it now.
