The GSA has had a 6000 mile service today with the only extra item of a constant slow speed wheel wobble the machanic said he believed it was a out of true front wheel? on stripping it down on my return home, yes there is a very very slight out of trueness but i don't think it is that much of a problem to cause this amount of wobble,i am wondering if its the front tyre? is there any way i can check the tyre for faults? or is a return to factory the wheel has been balanced at least three time which improved it a little?

your :bow advice would be apreciated

Are you on Tourances? They are known for slow-speed wobble. It seems to be pure luck whether or not you get a 'bad' one, but my last front was a 'bad' one. The effect diminishes with wear though.... and to be honest I just ignored it after a while.

Yeah - had a low speed 'shimmy' with the last Tourance I had. Diminished with wear, disappeared altogether when I put a new one on.

Same here on new Tourance last Year for the Pico trip.

You could feel it when banked over in a bend, I think it was only left handers.

Ditto the above. 3000 miles now and it's wearing off except at v. slow speeds or when I've got a pillion/paniers onboard.

So to conclude if the wheel is not the problem and the fault is the front tyre ,which at this moment it seem to be, based on your replys with regard to slow speed wobbles etc.......is this a one off unlucky batch many seem to have had fitted or is this a design fault within the tyre stucture? and if so do we still say Tourance are the best?? or have they slipped from number one position.

If so who is now number one,Dunlop, conti, bridgestone etc??? do we need a poll

Wheel or Tyre ...........update

Well finely got it sorted...new front wheel courtesy of BMW made no difference changed current Tourance with only 1,000 mile use on it for new Tourance and bingo! perfect ride again no wobbles or shimming? back to rock solid cornering so what to do with the faulty tyre? what do you suggest try and return it to Metzeler or just bin it......... :thumb

The pink way round

How about i sent you the tyre which will cost approx £10 YOU sent to the above charity £20?..............and the tyres yours what do you think :clap :clap :clap

Front Tourance Wobble

My GSA did that with Tourance on it, new bike and less than 3000 miles.
Made worse with luggage
I've had it before with the odd Tourance over the years
Metzeler were at Garmisch BMW meet, so let them rebalance it and check, but they said it was fine ......BUT underflated @ 36psi.........so the inflated the front to 42psi and rear to 48psi and bingo it's been fine (and so has the handling)
Metzeler didn't recommend BMW's views of tyre pressures..........weird

Front wheel wobble at low speed

Had new tyre fitted (tourance) thought wheel had been buckled somehow during fitting. But checked runout on rim which seems ok.So its looking like its the tyre have to get some more miles on it and see if it gets any better. Either that or just dont go slow!

Curious how you found these pressures long term? Do you still use them? Or did your tyres explode:D
