Wheels.... after hours of back breaking...

After hours of back breaking work to clean the back wheel yesterday, I went out today expecting to be dazzled by the shine as the sun alighted on it...

But NO!

The rear wheel looks a silvery colour as opposed to the dirt encrusted strating point, but looks all "milky".... I tried to polish it.. but makes f.a. difference..... aaarrrggghhhh......

What to do?

the alloy wheel cleaner I use on the car's ally's... tried it on a small bit by the valve and rinsed and it seemed okay at coming clean....

On a more serious note....it`s either unsuitable cleaning materials/methods or an attempt at polishing an anodised or lacquered rim....neither of which will be successful.

You`ll only get a stunning polished effect from bare alloy...like on my Red 1100.

I have acres of bare alloy on the Kettle's engine and carbs and it is a fecking chore keeping it nice and shiny. The slightest drop of rain and there's a mark.. After all these years all the ally cases must be as thin as fag paper after then number of times I've been on it with the poishing gear...

Looks like I gotta let the feck wheels get dirty again and not bother making them too clean...

That`s why I bought a second 1100.....to keep the other one clean...

Oops - you'll have left the cleaner on too long and it will have f'd up the lacquer over the alloy, causing it to go all milky.

Not a lot you can do.

Vines BMW did this to my wheels accidentally by using the wrong cleaner, and they had to stump up for a new pair of wheels for me. I tried polishing it out as well but no joy. I reckon to sort it you'd need to take it right back to the bare alloy (i.e. take all the lacquer off) and then either re-lacquer them or just keep the buggers bare and really clean.
