When final dive units get changed by BMW dealers, what happens to the old ones?

Where do the removed final drive units go?
Why I ask is I would like to obtain one to strip down and have a look at, after readin Patzx12's thread.
Preferably one of the later units with the drain plug at the bottom of the main casting, so if I can rebuild it back to A1 condition, I can fit it to my GSA.

My guess is factory reconditioning.

Maybe ask your local dealer?

As far as I know the dealers return everything to BMW.

I'd rather source one before it hit the bottom of the skip.... but Fanum your thinking the same as me...... ahem......

It will probably be sent back to the Fatherland.

Most warranty items have to go back to the factory for checking and dealer payment

i imagine bill will have checked them out on his recent visit ,but must be witholding pictures
