As it clearly did last week in Oz.
Picked up my new gs12 from Procycles Hornsby today after 6 months of thumb twiddling, living vicariously and staring longingly into space.....
It was like a police line up at the back of the showroom with 5 new bikes side by side awaiting starting orders from their new owners (and a further three being put together downstairs). All five had spoked wheels (an insight into the state of Oz roads perhaps) and two were identical Yellow, black, black colour scheme with pre-ordered H and B bars fitted. One of these was mine. :D:D:D:D......Hello to registration GSR12 whoever you are - you have good taste in bikes, colours and bars - well engine bars at least.
I now have just under 200Kms on the clock having toured enthusiastically around some of the best biking roads north of Sydney this afternoon - including my first ever dirt road on a bike (very interesting especially the newly gravelled bits with almost 2 inches of loose stuff....).
So far, I love the bike - it felt smoother in every way than the demo bikes that I rode and I found the gear box to be suprisingly light and snicky (except for first). The only suprise for me was all the clonking, banging and throbbing when the engine was at idle - but this is my first beemer and the salesman did warn me not to be too alarmed by 'funny noises'....
So after lurking on this site for ages, I feel I can finally come out and say hello to fellow GSers out there.
Cheers

Welcome to the club neighbour.
I picked up my Yellow, Grey, Black & mags from Procycles Horsnby 3 weeks ago. It was a cancelled order, so only had to wait from the Saturday when I rode the blue demo, to the Thursday when mine had unloaded & prepped.
Have known since the release of the 100 that I was getting a GS, just took longer then I had ever hoped, but it allowed it to mature, twice.
Had not decided on colour, so more then happy with the combo I got, was what I was biased towards.
Would have prefered spokes, but would have meant waiting. Will keep you posted if I manage to hurt the mags.
Engine bars & few other bits on order from Touratech.
Have only done 880km so far, but a trip to Newcastle tomorrow will get it due for 1st service.
Gotta love the mighty Pacific Hwy, built for bikes.
Impressions so far ... LOVE IT.
Had 5 moto-x as a kid, then XL600 & KLR650, so always one track mind, DIRT TRACK, and this is most exilerrating yet, can't wait until its run in & I can see what really lurks between my legs.
Today picked up my pre-ordered plate : RGS-12.
Not many suitable ones left, but try
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/myPlates/olpsChoosePlates.do?action=createNew
to see what plates you can dig out.
Once again, welcome to the clan, and am sure will see each other riding aimlessly somewhere.

;)

Me too, picked up a blue, grey, black with mags today from Procycles. Must be a few becoming available. Decided to take the plunge on Sunday, called them on Monday, picked it up today!

Seems much smoother than the demo. Panniers, Cee-baileys 3/2 screen, Corbin seat and Touratech bits on the way.

Lookin forward to the break in ride on the old and Putty roads.

Bigh

:D :D :D

Hi there,
sounds like there will be a few of us zooming around the pacific hwy, putty road etc for the next few weeks - I will keep my eyes out for you. Are you going to sign up for the offroad skills w/shop that John is threatening to organise? If so I will see you then if not before.
Must say I'm a bit miffed that after 6 months of patient waiting you guys just bowl up and get one of the shelf with no delay...you would really make my day if you told me you negotiated a price discount as well:D:D.
Thanks for the welcome Fanum and the clutch tip smeagol - there might be more aussies coming on line if the strong local sales of the 12 that my dealer told me about continue...

Congrats on your new bike mate

Do you know if your bike was a cancelled order or did Procycles have yours in stock ? I have been waiting since early August for mine and still waiting with no definate date yet ... should be early dec !!!

Just wondering haw procycles are doing this if its off the shelf, the reason I am getting antsy is my last bike was nicked 12 weeks ago and I am on the bus to work 37 degrees yesterday !!

All this talk of the Putty and the Old Road is making me a little home sick. Have a burger for me when next at the Road Warriors Cafe! For those of you unfamiliar with this destination for Sydney's two-wheeled community, I took the photo below at the annual Cycle Torque Bike Show a month or so before I left for London. It's on a piece of twisty road in the escarpments just north-west of Sydney; biking heaven!

Good to see some other Aussies on the forums.

road warriors

Steve - the cafe was my first stop after picking up the bike at Hornsby - I am running it in using the hard method (even the dealer said don't baby it) so stopped at the road warriors to let the bike cool down - and have a dodgy burger that had me farting for the rest of the ride.
Just to make you even more homesick after the rw I went up to mangrove mtn down a very isolated dirt road along the river at central mangrove, down to wiseman's ferry + over the Hawksebury, then back along old northern road and Galson Gorge.
A fantastic outing on the new object of desire.
I'll take my camera next time I'm out and post some pics.
Cheers

Nice ride! I look forward to the pics. Except for the dirt part (I had an RT then), I've enjoyed all those roads a few times, great part of the world.

Congrats on the bike! My 1200GS is on order for May delivery and some serious touring around the UK and Europe thereafter.

When I return in a few years, one of the first places I plan to take the GS is up around the Snowy Mountains and Upper Yarra Valley in Victoria. The sealed roads are amazing and I imagine there's plenty of great dirt to explore there too. Check it out if you get the opportunity, especially the roads highlighted by 'The Bear' in his 'Motorcycle Atlas of Australia'.

Happy trails :D Steve

I thought us Quenslanders were only one hour behind you Newsouthwelsh - it seems we're over a week behind... I've been told that I can't pick mine (RED,BLACK,BLACK,SPOKES) up until next Friday. Still, what's another week when I've been waiting since May?

Have fun lads, hope to see a few of you 1200 riders in the Snowies when I ride down to the Supers next year.:beerjug:

Good on yer mates. Throw a tinny on the barbie for me :D (I think thats Oz as she is spoke)

Dont they allow you to ride the fastest blue ones ? ;)

glad at least one of you had the sense to get the fastest blue one ;)

deliveries

I was told by my dealer (sounds good eh) that they were all delivered to Melbourne which is BM HQ and then forwarded overland from there. Might make some sense. I definitely have the NSW and Vic alps in my sights during the forthcoming year.
Cheers

Just been to see the dealer at lunchtime mine arrives 6/12 Yellow grey black spokes... wooohoooo !!!

He had a same spec but cast wheels in the showroom wating to be picked up looks fantastic in Yellow !!

Will have to go and get some incontinence pants to see me through till December !!!

Congrats on the new bike. Picked mine up last week and today I had the 600 mile service done. :beerjug:

Took it for it's first real run this afternoon (35 degress!!) Up to Hornsby, down the Gorge, Glenorie, the Portland ferry road then the back roads to Wisemans Ferry and back to Sydney on the Old Road, 200km all up

Simply the best bike i've ridden (15 all up) and gave a guy on a Fireblade a big shock (not sure if he was realy trying though!)

Fanum - thanks for the welcome

Mikef - The bike was a cancelled order, just in the right place at the right time I guess

Yeah was a perfect day for a ride.
Had a job in Newcastle to do.
Had the option of taking the tion top, or ripping the rear seat off, dropping the paniers on, & presto, a flat bed ute on 2 wheels.
Went up via F3 so I could get there, then spent the rest of the day slowly winding back, when I could escape the hoards of guys wanting to chat & check out this award winning beast.
Now she is tucked into the bedroom for a week until her 1st service ... :(
Sure we shall see each other some time wandering around some of these fantastic roads with no destination, other then the thrill of the ride.
Once again, congrats, and sorry to rub in the almost instant delivery.
Was even prepared to fly interstate if I could find one waiting, but luck was in... :D

Hello bigh and dolphin - i will be keeping an eye out for you guys at the weekend. there is a good chance I will be heading out north again at some stage.
