As on the tin, My Shoei XR1000 is now 5 years old and at least 50,000 mls but I've looked after it and it still looks new (no bumps, bangs, never dropped) but is it time to renew?
Thoughts please.

I always wear one when riding mine :augie some of them are model specific, wearing a BMV enduro for example will just not work on a sportsbike :aidan

Its a judgement call really. I personally changed my Arai after 6 years and kept it to use for passengers etc.

I would think that if the pennies are tight then hold onto it for another year and see what deals come out. :nenau

20% off everything at J&S.

That will be Northwich for you I guess.

Personally I only Buy Helmets in the January sales (being a tight git) Its only because times are hard that J&S are continuing the sale into the summer.

I have my usual day to day. and a brand new 'spare' I picked up in January (spookily enough) for next to nothing. I will swap either if the helmet gets dropped and damaged. Begins to stink. or the 'fit' becomes too loose.

can't think of another valid reason - these things don't come with a 'use by'

Thanks motobiker the j & s sale has prompted this question, £70 off is a good saving.

lack of consentration on posting, I have now re-enterd in relevent section. Nice to see all the thread captains are on the ball :ronno ;)

I cant see the problem. This is the Technical and RIDER section. after all.

Its the sort of post/question that is quickly answered and will rapidly drop away down the list anyway. It can be moved, but whats the point?

you're more likely to get a speedy and sensible answer here than in some other areas of the forum I can think of.

Well we have ride reports in the Airhead section and "look at my new bike" posts in the 1200 section so I can't see a problem with a helmet question in the 1100/1150 section :)

Might try a "show us your GS" thread in the KTM section :D

My "Buff" is starting to get a bit smelly. I'm seeking some expert advice as to whether I should:

A. Purchase a new one
B. Ask SWMBO how to use the washing machine
C. Try to get another 1,000 miles out of it

Apologies if this has been posted in the wrong section :augie

I thought manufacturers recommend a life span for their products. Why don't you call or email Shoei UK?

Their technical van are usually at the big shows .. so why not try the BMF in May. If they say yes then you can easily buy a bargain at the show. :thumb2

The stinky smells don't come out of buffs even after a wash ..

Best to get a new one if you don't like stinky buffs.
