When you've got a new 'Stitch

Well, not being a fashion conscious ponce like some of you,I think my roadcrafter is feckin ace.Sod what it looks like,it does the job,and it does it well, what more do you want from bike gear.Sit in the pub in jeans and t shirt in the summer,or leathers.Hmm,let me think....

As for the price.Mine is a custom size, with alterations, and it cost £454 when it arrived on the doorstep. Now run along and have a look how much your charlie/ewan lookalike suit costs.

Know what you mean, some people think they're bloody Lewis Hamilton!!

dont let her drive then ..................Looking good Linda :thumb

The suits are not the Holy Grail of motorcycle clobber they are often portrayed as. They have their faults and are as compromised in their own way as anything else you can find.
You're right. Too hot in summer city riding (ie over 22deg). Need more vents.

'stich suits are the holy grail of bike suits for me. I use my bike 90% for work and I need to be able to appear at a meeting, get out the bike gear and walk into the meeting looking as human as possible. Given that they are relatively cheap (£450 just now) compared to leathers, as/more waterproof as most other bike clothing they represent very good value for money.

Things to do to a new suit.

1. pose - obviously
2. get about 500 miles on them to breakl them in and get the creases in the right places
3. spray with nikwax TX spray paying close attention to the zips (the fabric bit)
4. get another 500 miles on it and do the zip thing again
5. ride around in all weathers with a deserved feeling of superiority.

Things that could be improved
1. front zip flap could be more weather proof
2. zip fabric could be more waterproof
3. cuff/forearm could be more roomy to accommodate liners/fleece and gloves during heavier rain

Who made that crack about tellytubbies?

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS?

I have a pair of Aerostich Roadcrafter trousers rather than the one piece suit.

This for me is the best of both worlds.

You get the quality and protection of a Stich.

You get the convenience of being able to 'rip' the trousers off in under 5 secs, Full Monty style, and walk around in normall trousers ( i usually wear a pair of Craghoppers underneath).

You dont get the romper suit "doesnt quite fit properly anywhere" look that doubting thomas's dont like. The triousres fit extremely well, plus mine are black on black so they look similar to most other trousers.

You can where any jacket you like with them.

You can also chuck the trousers easily in even the smallest topbox/pannier and just wear / carry your jacket with you.

They are WITHOUT A DOUBT the best bit of biking kit I have ever bought.

I can see how, for you, Stich is a good suit.

If I rode some distance and on arrival wanted to spend a long time in one place, out of motorcycle gear, had somewhere to put the suit and then do a return journey, it makes sense.

If I want to do a Vern and nip to the pub, I choose my BMW summer strides and a lightweight jacket. That way I only have a lid and a jacket to stow somewhere, not a full, bulky suit.

Same goes for nipping to the shops, sight-seeing etc. Any time that short-ish rides are followed by a stop and then more riding, Stitch is too much suit. You need almost as much space to park the suit as you do the bike.:eek

My suit fits comfortably in my topbox!

I originally got the 2 piece so I could stow the trousers and walk around with the jacket on carrying my lid but never actually bothered to split the suit so when I wanted a new one I went for the 1 piece.

Still don't know which is better!

After watching the Meisters Hale and Fanum clamber out of theirs in 2 seconds flat in the pub last week, I'm seriously tempted. However, I'm an odd size (v tall and of racing snake physique). Have any other tall/thin tossers been successful ordering one that fits?

A good srarting point is to use the fitting service on their website, they will come back to you by email within 24 hours with a recommendation of sizing required and whether it would be off the peg or require any alterations.

Used it for both myself and Ms Cheeks and their recommendations were spot on. :thumb

Nope

Tried that, won't work, seems I did too much growing  Had this back from their sizing team:

One piece will not work for you due to we do not offer alts to make the torso longer..

It's not the torso that needs to be longer..it's your belly that needs to grow :D

Seriously, at 6'4" mine is perfect...in fact, when I'm stood up rather than sat on the bike, the back of the legs of the suit touch the ground...then when I sit on the bike it pulls back up to a
ankle length....I can't see the length being a problem for you, it's the girth, or in your case , the lack of it.

The good news is that Dr Fanum can cure you .....you just need to drink more beer and eat more pies :D

I'm a seriously odd shape with short legs, bigish belly and odd width shoulders. If I wanted I could have got each arm a different length but went for 1.5" shorter in the arms adn legs (above the knee) for an extra £50. Fits me like a potato sack, which I assure you is better than my normal clothes!

Bloody Hell!!

Sorry to hear about you oddball shape mate. Wish I'd have known earlier, I would have brought it for you, and put it through the Company accounts as some sort of charity jesture, and off set it against my tax!! :D :D

Bet that was a challenge to the "stich" representative..:thumb2

There is a reason. I have had 4 operations to 'stabilise' the joints at either end of both collarbones. This has resulted in a narrowing of my right shoulder by 1.75" adn the left by 1". The right achromial-clavicular joint broke open when I dumped my Yam Thundercat and has not been connected for over 10 years whilst the left is threatening to disrupt at any time. I now also have slight shortening of the left leg (reasons as yet unknown) and general ligament/tendon problems.

I am a co-founder of the PFC, new members welcome!
